This has already been posted in the Springfield handguns section.

I had just reinstalled the striker spring after cleaning my XD45. I tried to install the slide on the frame and the slide got stuck about 3/4 of the way back. Now it won't budge in either direction! It isn't far back enough to engage the disconnector lever. Here's a couple of (crappy) pics:

What's stuck? Do I have to send it to Springfield for repair?

Welcome to the club.

You need to beat on the back of the slide with a rubber/plastic mallet.  That's the only way to unlock it.  Make sure the slide doesn't hit the dirt when it flies forward.

Put a mag in it and then fuck with it.

Edit.  Why did you take any springs out of it?  I don't get it.

Check to see if your feed ramp is caught under frame inside.  We had 2 like this come into the shop.

This has happened frequently to many XD users. The cause is the recoil spring being slightly out of position when the slide went back on and the barrel feed ramp  then drops prematurely and gets caught on the frame.  There  are a lot of solutions out there but the easiest and the one recomended by Springfield ( I believe) is to take an adjustable wrench, close it just enough to fit on the recoils spring assembly rod  in front of the muzzle. Place wrench on the floor with muzzle then ponting down and stand on the wrench. Pull back on the pistol, this will compress the recoil spring and allow the barrel to unlock and go forward. You may have to play with it but this is the best way. Also, you may have to pull the trigger at some point to allow the sear to disengage.
There may even be a video of this on you tube. Hope that helps

That'd be my guess.  Had it happen with one of my Glocks.  Mainspring was off just enough that when slide went back on, the feedramp hopped over the lip and caught on the locking block.  Massive PITA to get it to un-hop  But managed to get it unlocked after about 30 min of futzing with it.

This is a good way to fix it if it is indeed the feedramp being caught.

Yup.

I called Springfield Armory Customer Service today, and the nice lady there told me to smack the crescent wrench with a hammer, so that the recoil spring rod is forced AWAY from the trigger. First hammer blow fixed the problem! I field tested the piece and now it is back in action.

Thanks to all for your constructive suggestions!
