Quoted: Looks like your overly generous application of thermal paste raneth over and caused a short ![]() The thermal paste was NON-Conductive (and also an epoxy to hold the fan on - artic silver) - It worked fine for about 3 years. Yes I know, there is a little too much on it though. I have since learned form my mistake. Luckily, I just built a new computer with an i5 in it |

Quoted: Did you put a fan on the Southbridge chip? You didn't need to do that, and it fried because you used too much thermal paste. I see you replaced the stock Northbridge fan with an aftermarket unit. I have a similar ABIT board and had to do the same thing. The stock ABIT Northbridge fans were SHIT and died in a year or two. I used the fan from a video card and it worked great. Fucking ABIT P4 MBs can be a real PITA. ![]() P4's ran HOT as hell. They sucked because of it. http://www.abit.com.tw/upload/products/ic7_top_500.jpg This is the one I have. An IC7-G. Bought in 2003. Still runs, but need to replace the Northbridge fan every couple of years. ![]() Very true. I use ASUS or gigabyte now. Mine had an IC7-G too, bought it around 2004/5 .I had a P4 3.0ghz Prescott processor in it, which ran VERY HOT. The reason I had a fan on the southbridge was I had it overclocked at one point to I think 3.6? or maybe 3.4ghz. |
