I have a 96 Polaris 400 Scrambler. When I am riding it will intermittantly shut itself down (no indication that there is a problem, i.e. misfire or lagging, just dies) but it starts right back up. I am wondering if maybe the rev limiter is acting up. When it shuts down, I am not anywhere near over revving it at all. Last Saturday rode alot during the day with no problems. Yesterday went for a short spin and it cut out again. I am going out to check connections on the kill switch and ground wires for ignition. Just looking for any other suggestions.
TIA!!

Sounds like a problem with the CDI. Get a new one (or rather new to you) and you should be fine. Check for rust around the pick up coil.

If its wired like a snowmobile, there is a switch in the throttle mechanism that kills the engine if it detects a frozen cable or throttle stuck WFO. It works on cable tension I think. Anyway, these were known to go bad and cause this problem years ago.  It is the first place I would look.

ETA. Find a wiring diagram and disable/bypass the switch ONLY FOR TESTING PURPOSES!! See if problem goes away. If so replace switch.
