A great big WTF ??????????????

Twice now, in the last year, Google Earth has uninstalled itself and the execution file with it.   Can't find it anywhere on my computer.

I look in the control panel under programs, and yet, there it is !

Apparently the control panel see's it, but if I open the explore program and look in the Google folder, nothing, nada, zip.

So I go to Google Eath web page and has a Google Earth 5 download.  I download it.  I run the program, it tells me thank you for install Google eath 5 but guess what,  nada, nothing, still not there.

WTF ???????

Is it my computer ???, Windows Vista ???   Yes, I have rebooted.

Can anyone help ?

I wouldn't touch Google Earth with a ten foot poll since it installed Chrome on my computer randomly. I had auto-update off, never messed with the program much, turned on my computer one day and Chrome was on my desktop.

I took every file of G E off and even did a registry hunt. Good riddance.

This thread reminded me not to use Google anymore.   I think I'm going to start using Bing since Google seems determined to suck off the government as much as possible lately.

I too had Google Earth installed a while back and it installs all kinds of shit that can be annoying to get rid of.

This is a known problem with later version of Windows.

The program is still there - what is happening is that the desktop shortcut is disappearing.

I had to go into the program files and make my own shortcut.

Hold on on a minute...

Here, do this...

If icons/shortcuts dissappeared from desktop but GE app still exists and it is runnable then you only need to re-create the short-cuts to the .exe

First try to find the target exe file and verify that it still runs.

The target file is googleearth.exe

File can be found in C:\Program Files\Google\Google Earth\client\googleearth.exe
or on 64-bit machines in C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Google Earth\client\googleearth.exe

Right-mouse click on googleearth.exe and select 'Create shortcut' then move short-cut back to the Desktop.

If cannot find the .exe or it can no longer run then follow the uninstall/reinstall steps

I tried that first and guess what, its all gone, every file disappeared.

I just found an internet user group that says I have to reinstall and uncheck the auto updates portion of the install.

I did that, and its back.   Google is apparently working on another solution, but it appears to happen alot.

Google Earth was tearing my system up.  I was using it in conjunction with Garmin Mapsource.

Got rid of Chrome and Google Earth and I am back up rockin' and rolling.

It was also installed on several computers at work for some reason, including my desktop in my lab when I took over.

Got rid of it and it immediately increased my speed by a factor of no less than five.
