Would this target be safe to shoot with pistols at ~25 yards or closer? What about .22's at ~25 yards?

I have a 1/2" target like that I shoot at 25 yards.  I have it dangling off of a target stand with some chain and never had any problems.

It will be fine for .22

Little thin for centerfire use for my tastes

I use 1/2" T1 for my centerfire steel targets

I shoot handguns at my ar500 targets from 10 yards. Rife calibers I try to stay atleast 15 yards and out.

All of mine are on swingers so they spray the copper/lead down.

Pistol of any caliber at any range will be fine from a target damage perspective. Safety is another issue but your target will be fine, especially if it's a swinger.

My steel is all 3/8" AR500 and comes from either MGM or Action Target.

I shoot all of mine routinely with 193 ball from 20-30 yards as well....some dimpling but all targets are still generally in good shape. The edges do get a bit chewed up but you should have no problems with center mass hits. I did notice that one of my 40" stab and shoots is starting to cup a bit but hell, I've been shooting it for 5 or 6 years with a rifle.

Remember good eye pro, long sleeves and pants....I've seen guys get the shit torn out them from a pistol jacket coming off of steel at close range.  Gloves are not a bad idea either if your shooting within 25yds on steel.
