Love mine!  I got the least expensive, and tether through my iPhone if I need internet access at a place that has no WiFi.

Great eBook reader, great web browser, fun games, good PDF viewer.  Only thing lackng is I don't know that I would attempt alot of data entry with it.

Go play with one, I think you'll enjoy.

E.T.A.    The only must have I can think of is Ghost armor from Best Buy to protect the screen, and the $35 case that Apple sells.  Black case, can fold back to be a stand.

FWIW whenever I'm looking at picking up something like that I go to big retailers and read through the customer reviews.

Love mine, but I'm an IT idiot.  Got the 3G/Wifi enabled.  Bought it solely for a big vacation this summer out west with the family, and wanted good internet mobility.  Streaming netflix, cool apps, ipod, QuickOffice to work on documents, GPS, Dropbox to share documents on other PCs.  I'm trying to learn how to utilize it more in daily life, and at first thought it may have been a waste of money (when compared to a netbook).  However, as I learn to use it more, I'm loving it now.  Certainly can't do processing like a laptop, but certainly is meeting my needs.

all the same speed, just about storage space and if you want 3G access

more storage space gives you the ability to store more apps, music, etc.

since you are asking, 16GB is fine for you, but you cant upgrade, so consider getting a larger one

64g is hard drive size. Nothing to do with speed. Not sure if they even have different speeds. Check the processor speed. Generally, the more Ram and the faster the processor (in mhz orghz) the faster the system will be.

Do not go to an apple store! Freaks and zealots hang there. Best Buy or online. If you go the BB route call to verify they have one in stock.

I bought one for my wife a few months ago. It definitely has a good size, an easy user interface, and is excellent at what it does, but I would in no way say it comes close to "beats the PC".

It is great for the wife to keep up with Facebook or to have while watching TV and asking "where have we seen that actress before?" It is OK for responding to the occassional email. It's good for Google Maps (when you're in range of the ATT 3G service). It's good for pilots looking for a replacement for paper charts. It's an awesome  media player (movies/video, music). She also uses Kindle for the iPad to read her book club books.

Basically, it's good at any task not requiring a keyboard - and that's the limitation of the device.

I cannot imagine doing any significant typing on the keyboard (which has an annoying habit of changing layouts from app to app) and I cannot think the designers expected its users to do any serious business application work on it. I got my wife the keyboard docking station to make it easy to draft emails and Facebook entries, but that really works only when a) on a flat surface b) while typically connected to (you guessed it) a PC. (Another annoyance is the keyboard dock does not work with the protective sleeve provided by Apple. She ends up just using the direct cable connection over 90% of the time to avoid having to remove/install the sleeve repeatedly.)

Another limitation is lack of Adobe Flash support. This will be a limitation on some web sites - particularly media intensive sites like YouTube, but, um, well, there's an app for that - YouTube that is. You're SOL for the others.

Bottom line: The iPad is a good slate computer for a significant, but limited number of user scenarios. Anybody looking for a highly mobile true computer should carefully consider their need for a real keyboard. If that is important or required, the iPad will be frustrating.

Oh, and the one rule for buying any computer regardless of format: Buy as much computer as you can afford. That's the best way to extend its useful life.

I have a 32gb, no wifi.  My daughter and I love it and the storage is more than enough for our needs.  Close to 40 apps, 10 movies, several books, and beaucoup games.  Battery life is great.  My daughter watched movies for most of a 10 hours road trip and it still had about 50% battery left at the end of the day.  Basic Word and Excel docs are easy.  Great for surfing the internet.  I recommend the Kindle app over iBooks.  It is a  little bit more customizable last time i compared them and books are cheaper, plus you get the "classics" for free.  I can't comment on the 3G version as i live about an hour from any 3G service.

Speaking as an IT Guy:

One of my regional managers got one, and for shits and giggles we actually got out CITRIX enviroment up and running on it. What's really cool is that we enabled his Citrix desktop function, so now when he logs in it looks like he's running Windows XP on an IPAD.

He loves trolling apple nerds with that :)

FYI, the Citrix Receiver app also works on the iPhone. Me and one of my tech guys created a bit of a stir at work by demonstrating that we could get some of our key business apps that we run under Citrix available on the iPhone. We did it on the iPad later when someone brought one in for us to play with. You have to do a lot of zooming and panning on the iPhone, but it works! We have a few director level people that got iPads that we have hooked up. One of them said "Ha! Ha! Our VP doesn't even have this!" I expect to be getting a call from said VP soon for me to come and set up her iPad with Citrix access.
