residential central air- room-mate calls me saying that mine just crapped out (ice/condensation present) and is only blowing hot air now. I told him to turn it off until we can get it looked at, citing that it could cause more problems. When I am gone he likes it at 67 (possibly lower) or so which has the system working damn near constantly.
Could the culprit of this be from setting the tempurature that low or more likely from a leak? |

Allow coil or condenser to thaw completely, clean coil inside and outside, clean condenser, start system. See how it flies at 74* and then go lower. Only a TXV can help with bad ducting. Change filter also. |
| If there is ice present on the suction line to the condensing unit then yes it could be from never satisfying the setpoint. But you also said that it is blowing hot air. If it was iced up from never satisfying then the evaporator coil would be iced up and there would be NO airflow. If it is blowing hot air AND there is a call for cooling and you can verify that the condensing unit(the unit outside with the fan and compressor) is running then is either has no refrigerant or the compressor is shot. |
I am not there to inspect personally, this has all been relayed by my room-mate. I can say that the filter was replaced about 2 weeks ago and should be near perfect. It was working great last night when I was there, that's why I was wondering why it went from normal to boke a$$ sh!t in less than a day
