[ARCHIVED THREAD] - MCI Calling, SCAM???

So twice this evening I've gotten a recorded call from MCI thanking me for using them and to please hold. Plus, I can pay my bill.

Now, I don't have MCI service. Not landline, not cell, not nothing.

Is this some kind of scam going around? They call up and ask you to pay your bill with a credit card and rip you off?

Unless I am wrong, MCI hasnt been around for years.
They were taken over by Verizon Business at least 4-5 years ago.

Use your caller ID and Google the number see what comes up.

I've waited on hold just to see what would happen but no-one ever comes on the line (for the few minutes I'm willing to wait).

Is there any way that someone calling me can run up a "bill to number" charge the way I've heard that some scammers do when they get YOU to call a number?

We have not been MCI for years since our merger with Verizon.
