Sounds like a belt or dryer drum coaster/spacer (not sure what it's really called.
Does the drum turn freely and with enough power to flip the dryer load when turned on?
it's a front loading machine.
The drum seems like it turns with no problems. It looks like the back of the machine will come off with no problem to get at the "innards", but wanted to get a few ducks in a row before i get into this project.
The machine operates like it should, but it does squel for the first 5 minutes or so when running.

"Looks like the back of the machine will come off" is a trap. Don't try it.
The top will have a couple of spring clips at the front that release the top. Tie it up out of the way, it has a hinge along the back edge. Then the front can be removed. Don't stick your hands in there with the dryer plugged in.
If it's similar to mine, the right hand drum idler wheel is directly above the hot air exhaust. This guarantees all the lube in the bushing evaporates out causing the bushing and shoulder bolt to squeal. After farting around with disassembling this machine three or four times to relube the bushing, I finally bought a new bushing and made a fiberglass insulation blanket to cover the top and sides of the hot air duct. The blanket is made from a piece of fabric left over from a Corvette kit, folded over double a couple of times, and then clamped to the duct with three hose clamps. I used twisted safety wire to hold the blanket until I got the hose clamps threaded around and reconnected. I used Mobil 1 lube on the bushing this time, instead of white lithium grease.
So far, not a squeak.
The bushing on the left hand side has never given a problem, but I recommend giving it a dose of new lube while you're in there.
