I finally got a job after 2 years of searching. To celebrate this fortunate turn of events, I am going to give myself a gun related gift for my birthday (around February). I have narrowed it down to three possible gifts, but cant decide which to choose.

1. Buy myself a Springfield Mil-Spec 1911 pistol. I sold my only pistol (1911) to my dad to pay a bill, and have been wanting to pick up another one ever since. I also have about 1000 rounds of .45acp laying around wanting to be shot.

2. Finish working on my "pig" AR-15. It is an Oly arms k-16. I want to get the barrel cut down and pin on a kx3 (this thing makes pretty good fireballs and I want them bigger), and then have a Troy TRX Extreme 13" rail installed. Magpul MBUS and Streamlight TLR-1 to finish the combo. This is a project AR I have been working on since my Grandpa gave me the lower receiver shortly before passing away. He gave one to every man in my family, but I am the only one that has had funds to build theirs up. It would be nice to finally get the rifle completely finished.

3. Finish my SHTF rifle. A buddy and I got good deals on lowers, and built them up using a Magpul MOE stock kit, ERGO grip, and DPMS LPK. I want to get a standard BCM middie upper and install a 12" TRX extreme rail with some other goodies so that it becomes the "LITE" version of my other AR.

There is also the option of re barreling and getting a new stock for my Savage .30-06.

Which would you guys decide, and why? Also, post pics of your setups that are similar to anything I have mentioned.

I think you should buy a 1911...the 1911 you sold to your dad. Unless he really wanted that gun I think you should at least offer to buy it back from him. I was in a similar situation a couple years ago, my step dad offered to buy my Marlin 336 from me. Later on I was given some good advice that I should buy it back from him since he helped me out and didn't need that gun at all, so I did. I'm glad I did at the time because I feel like I paid back a debt I owed him. Just something to think about.

If he really wants to keep it...then maybe go after another 1911.

Crap, forgot to mention that part. The pistol was originally his a few years back. I bought it from him when him and my mom needed some cash. He bought it back from me when I needed cash lol. That pistol is kind of our version of loan collateral lol. He wants to keep it as it is one of the first AMT hardballers made decades ago.

Well in that case, my vote right now would be a 1911. The MilSpec is a great choice, I know I love mine. It is my carry 1911. Has about 1000 rounds through it and has been flawless. It has just enough extras that it has everything you need, nothin you don't.  I love 1911's

My second vote would be to finish the AR.

Yes I do. But handguns require holsters for carry (I have my lifetime permit), any suggestions on something that will last for years? Also, I know that the mil-spec will become a project gun as well and will be getting a rail and light installed at some point, so any suggestions on a good holster for a 1911 with a light? Must be a IWB holster.
