if you live in the Midwest you know about these jumping fish and the problems they are causing to the waterways

in two words...

skeet fishing

anyone live near the Missouri river want to try it and let us know how it goes?

They don't really jump high enough  around here for that, just kinda come up and flop down. But every once and awhile they jump under a dock and end up tits up a short while later.  But I'd still give it a go on the skeet shooting.

I don't know about using firearms though, those pellets still go a ways and can put a good hurting on someone. It's funny you bring this up, I was showing a buddy at work the youtube vids of them earlier.

these guys know how to do it though

I've seen the videos of people running in a boat and the fish jumping into the boats. That seems high enough to get shots off, especially off the back of a boat

If I were in the area, taking the Benelli M3 out on the water to try it would be lots of fun!

Assuming steel shot was utilized. Fish scraps with embedded shot eaten by other fish is something to take into consideration.

Would it be better for fish to ingest steel shot rather than say tungsten?

Will steel rust out in fish? Real questions, I think that would be entertaining.

I am thinking strictly entertainment value, they are eating everything and killing off other species of fish by eating all the food. So steel shot or lead it would not be for eating them just the plain fun of watching a 5 pound fish explode in mid air.

then you can have tours to let people fish with guns....

in about 2 months the rednecks would have all the waterways cleared of Asian carp

Properly orchestrated, it would be both safe and fun.

Ingesting those metals probably wouldn't harm the fishes.

I'd be in on that.  You'd have to line everyone up on one bank for safety and from there I'm not sure how you would get them to jump, but it sure sounds like awesome!

I understand just the sound of a power boat going through the water gets them jumping. They are disturbed by loud noises. ether that tossing in sticks of dynamite I am sure would get them jumping enough for 6-10 people to start  shooting from the bank or a boat.

They jump plenty high on the IL river.  People have been bow fishing for them while they jump.  Definitely not legal to have a loaded gun in a moving boat in IL, let alone discharge it.

In theory, but they only jump when the boat motor is running and the boat is moving.

This is a genius idea.  The only thing I would change would be a substitution of very dry corn kernels for the cat food.

Disturbances in the water cause them to jump like that.

Ask the fish.

My solution is to cut the ghetto welfare rats off and tell them they can fish for food. Tell them they are catching Carp and Tilapia. We could set up oil fryers on the shore and air drop lard and flour in every week. We'd be getting rid of the Carp and in a month they would all be dead from clogged arteries..

Result!
