Other than good luck, my only piece of advise is don't stick out.  Meaning, don't be the guy who always f's up, just blend in, stay stealth and you'll be fine.  The day I graduated boot, none of my instructors knew who I was and didn't believe I was there the whole time.  Worked out wonderfully for me, unlike some of the other guys who had them camping out in their asses.
9/5/2010 1:16:04 PM EDT

Good Luck
All you need to know is "Yes Sergeant" "No Sergeant" and "ComingMoving Sergeant"

You'll know you've had a successful basic training experience if your DIs/TIs/DSes/RTIs or whatever they are called don't know your name on graduation day.  Stay stealth, stay happy.

Same thing happened to me.  "Who the f––- are you?  Are you in my platoon?"  Didn't make it to quite the end though; I was OCS bound and was 'discovered' because of that.

Good luck.....its what you make of it...your gonna be asked to do some stupid shit, that makes no sense,....some of  it has a purpose...some of it doesnt......suck it up and drive on...........dont be "That" guy.....(the guy that fucks up all the time and gets his team a smoking in the sawdust pit).....

Good Luck. After the First two weeks you will be into the routine, and everything will be fine.

Thanks for joining the Armed Forces.

Don't forget your suntan lotion and board shorts.
It's hard to get chicks on the weekend at the beach when you're sun burnt.

I almost forgot, don't let them brainwash you.  You are an individual and special and important, no matter what they tell you.
Pay no attention to all the blustering, they're not gonna hurt you.
9/5/2010 2:06:37 PM EDT

Make sure you get a buzz cut before you go, volunteer for everything and do what you can to stand out.

Seems like it was just yesterday my dad was dropping me off at the recruiting station. The four years in flew by and I've been out now for 5 years.

Like the others have said, just keep your mouth shut and you'll do fine.

Absolutely. The best way to do this is with an aggressive marching drill/dance routine.

That way, he will know for damn sure that he has been served.

Make sure you meet your PT requirements (don't fall out of runs) don't let the platoon down do your part.
Don't become one of the fuck ups. Coach those in need..
Pass your studies
Keep your kit organized and clean
Shower every chance you get be the first in.Stay clean , smell clean
Get sleep when your able too, even if its just for a couple of minutes.
Don't bitch moan or complain
Resist the urge to get loaded on your earned leaves, don't drink period. PT when your drunk or hung over is brutal
IF.your allowed to take/keep vitamins in your kit get a multi, and a B complex for daily supplement Ibuprofen is beneficial also

Good Luck thanks for serving

Just remember, it WILL end.  It'll feel like it won't, but it will.  Just hang in there.  And get every minute of sleep you possibly can, because you'll probably average 4 hours a night.

Which branch?

My dad told me to always have a pen handy. Dunno if that advice applies today (PMR'd so I never got to use it ) but it worked for him.

Do your part, help your squad mates and try not to stand out.

Thanks and good luck!

Don't listen to this guy, refer to your DI's as "Sir" they feel they've earned that title and thus will treat you well when you recognize this, extra time alone in the showers in the morning with your loofa, higher quality shit tickets in the head just for you, turndown service on your bunk, trust me, life will be good.

Goodluck and godspeed!

Do the opposite of what everyone is telling you in this thread and you should be good.
