I believe there are certain things everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime. Here's a few I can think of... Shoot a machine gun. Own a sports car. Have sex with a stripper. Go to a foreign country. Hard manual labor for money. Eat a entire pizza by yourself. Tell your boss what you think of him. Teach a kid something useful. Get up early to watch the sun come up. Build something with your own hands. Own a dog and treat it like family. Buy a Veteran a beer. Buy one thing you've always wanted but could never afford. editted to add.."Piss off Israel, and by extention EricTheHun[:D]" Because in your last hours you will regret not doing all the things you should have. Nobody dies thinking, damn at least I paid the cable bill on time. What's on your list?

Apologize to a family member you haven't talked to in years simply because of your pride.

Oh my God. Been there, done all of them. Does that mean I'm going to die now?

Have wild and crazy sex with the Olsen twins after their 18th birthd...oops, I can't post that here, can I? Okay, here's a real list: 1) Take my grandson shooting (hopefully I'll have one some day) 2) Visit with Abu Sayef, Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein, listen to their points of view peacefully and amicably, then waste them all with extreme prejudice. 3) Watch the Assault Weapons Ban sunset, and Charles Schumer/Hillary Clinton/Oprah cry.

Out of that list, I've never: Shoot a machine gun. Own a sports car. Have sex with a stripper. Tell your boss what you think of him. Own a dog and treat it like family. Buy one thing you've always wanted but could never afford. I guess I need to get to work. Of course, I'd be much happier if I could shoot a gun, any gun. I haven't been since August, and I was planning on going tomorrow. I just found-out a coworker quit this morning, so I have to work tomorrow. Eight months without shooting hasn't been fun.
Nobody dies thinking, damn at least I paid the cable bill on time.

My father did! Well, it wasn't the cable bill, but one of the last things he said to me was that his entire life he always paid what he owed in full and on time. That's something to brag about after living through the depression with several kids. My parents didn't leave us much, but they didn't owe anything. Paying what you owe on time for your entire life is something to be proud of. From the credit reports I've seen the past few years, that's not something many people can brag about.
What's on your list?

Good question. Here's my list: fire a full-auto Uzi, have a shooting range in my back yard, a long vacation in Paris, drive cross-country, shake the President's hand in the oval office, and return to Korea to help finish what we started 50 years ago. They're all things I won't get to do, but I can dream.z
Link Posted: 4/12/2002 12:31:49 PM EDT
Wow only three to go, and I have no desire to eat a whole pizza. Instead of giving up at the end of the list I'd like to: 1. Bungee Jump 2. Get my AFF licence for sky-diving 3. Punch Alec Baldwin in his worthless face 4. Party with the President's daughters

Just to address this, I wasn't suggesting that paying your own way isn't noble/admirable. I was trying to point out that the things we deem "important" are often mundane in the grand scheme of things.

Hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Climb a mountain. Take a sailboat cruise at sunset. Hold your newborn baby. Be totally, unquestioningly, blindly in love with someone else. Drive over 100MPH. Fly in the open door of a helicopter. Hit on a girl in a foreign language. Get in a fistfight. Write a poem (even if it sucks). Sleep under the stars with nothing but sky above you and no lights for miles around. Chase fireflies. Jump out of an airplane. Drive across the country. Sing in public.

Styer - Been there and done everything on your list...except for the stripper. Actually, I'm pretty happy with where I am and what I've achieved so far. A few things I'd like to do, but probably never will though... 1. Argue and win a landmark 2nd Amendment case in the US Supreme Court. 2. Win the $200+ Million Big Game Jackpot and give away a few hundred AR15's with all the goodies and accessories (look for a post by Fatman on the general board) 3. Take a 3-month vaccation in Italy with a certain drop dead gorgeous structured finance attorney in Manhattan.

I like to collect quotes and here is something on this topic: A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. As much as I DESPISE John Lennon (oh, DAMN do I ever HATE him!), there is one line in one song by him that really is appropriate here: "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans" I've done everything on SteyrAUG's list (except the stripper - no effen-way mon!). Here's my very short list: 1) Renounce Satan and accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. 2) Raise a child to be a healthy, mature, responsible person. 3) Teach your kids about friendship, honor, duty, courage, compassion and forgiveness. Teach by example. 4) Say what you mean, mean what you say, and be a man of your word. 5) Climb the highest mountain you can find - often. 6) Spend time seeing Washington DC. 7) Spend more time seeing Yellowstone.

Why is it "some" of you guys object to banging a stripper? Are all the strippers you and Rik know disease infested meth heads? Do you guys only see them at biker bars? The ones I knew were pretty meticulous about personal hygine. Knew exactly what to do in bed and were a lot of fun. Obviously not everyone of them is like that. Some actually are "disease infested meth heads" but I have no interest in them. Hell it was hard enough finding the few that didn't smoke, I can't stand cigarettes.

I had a short list when I was younger: Own a house in the high mountains Have a wolf for a pet Own a classic Porsche as my daily driver Did all that by the time I was 27. The goals got larger: Own a big Victorian house in the city Drive a convertible Collect a lot of guns Breed Rottweilers Travel to Europe All done. NOW it gets interesting: Own another *bigger* Victorian house Make it pay it's own expenses Live in Texas Be debt free, not even a mortgage Try not to lose all that we have gained, while attempting to add more I will have to let you know how this chapter turns out......it is in process as we speak. If my goals seem all centered in material things, it is only because my personal spiritual goals are no one's business but my own. [;)] PS: All credit due to my devoted hard working mechanic husband, who has been very patient with my dreams.

I've done most of the stuff posted here (and I'm only 27!!). Still gotta hit the stripper and do a three-way, as well as hike the grand canyon (flew over it once, AWESOME!!). I'd like to travel from coast to coast on a motorcycle, hike the appalachian trail straight through, do an african safari (if I could muster the courage to shoot any of those magnificent beasts), be in a movie (even as an extra), and shake hands with an in-office republican president (though I did meet and chat with James Earl Jones once, which was almost as cool). LAter.

Before I die: - Have the courage and opportunity to just once champion my faith. - Play on and be a part of real team just once more. Just one season of hard work, practice, and play. Heck, just one game would be nice. Remember high school ball and how good it felt to play and win? Nothing has ever come close. - Defend the helpless as was done for me. - Watch my daughters be baptized. - See the evening news the day freedom lovers capture the Whitehouse AND both houses of Congress. - Urinate on Slick Willy's grave. - Get raptured, cause I really do not want to die!

I've always done things differently; I always saw things differently – for better or for worse. I was in the wackiest, most desperado outfit in the Brit Army – before Rambo came into style – because they were looking for wacko's then. After the army fiasco, I had and later, gave up great paying, secure jobs and moved across continents to get other great paying jobs when I was 30. I raised a family and – regretfully and unavoidably moved on, for the kids' sake – to another family and another country (but always paid the alimony). I've quit other big time, big money jobs to retire at 46 and taken chances that I had no real reason to hope they would suceed. And, because I found the right woman (second chance) I've never had cause to regret anything. I've done all Steyr's list and more – and some stuff that's f*cking unbelievable. The one thing you want to do before you die is run out of ideas – exhaust the possibilities – before it's too late. Fuck it – Who dares wins!
