| Who decides what unions have jurisdiction over what fields? Can workers in a field just decide to make their own union if you're in a non-right-to-work state and are required to join one? |
|
Depends on the state. You should be able to form any kind of organization you want and offer goods services and contracts to anyone. Whether you're a union, a business, an individual, a non-prifit etc. Most states are effed up about labor and unions though, and have really complicated politically assfucked laws governing who can offer labor for sale, and whether you can unionize and how it works.
Some states will allow a pool of labor (normally working for a single business) to compell the business AND the workers to deal through a union under certain circumstances. That's not freedom. Bottom line is it depends on your state. |

bitching among the different crafts saying "this is ours"....I was working as a union ironworker until I realized they were pricing themselves outta work in my area.
as a union iron worker....not only did I set steel and weld.....they had me pull wire......run pipe.....wood structures.....rubber roofing....concrete.....run equipment....paint....etc. each union has their "specialty"....but from what I saw it was a cut throat...."screw the other craft when you can" kinda mentallity. my whole union experience was a joke.....and I feel I'm qualified to say that....I was in for almost 6 yrs.....and all 6 were feast or famon....when you work....you make a fortune....and starve otherwize. and they say they are looking out for the workers intrest.....right up until it could cost them money. unions suck....imo. |
