I just spent all night in the ICU with my brother in critical condition because some braintrust with a badge decided it was a good idea to chase a stolen car at 120mph in a populated business district. Driver of the stolen car t-boned my brother at over 100mph. Anyway, things are not good, he's lost a lot of blood, severe internal injuries. All prayers appreciated.
Police chase ends in crash I.C. 10:45am - Blood pressure won't come up. Docs afraid still bleeding in pelvis due to multiple fractures. Lacerations to liver and spleen repaired according to the original surgeon. Also lost part of small intestine. If they get him stable he's going via air ambulance to KU Med Center. Thanks for your prayers. Please keep us in your thoughts. The older brother who was always there for me now needs me more than ever and I feel utterly powerless to do anything. Update #2 from the ICU waiting room: Brother had a second surgery for internal bleeding. Blood pressure up a little now and pulse down a little. Still bleeding a little from his multiple chest drains. He now has a low fever though Update #3 Brother went to KU Med Center this afternoon. Showed good improvement after 2nd surgery. BP up to near normal levels, but pulse still slightly elevated. He has improved enough though that his doc felt comfortable with ground ambulance rather than air ambulance. Thanks so much for the prayers. They are working. Update # 4 Exhaustion. spent last night at KU medcenter. That place is the most inhospitable place for visitors I've ever been. More surgery scheduled for tommorrow. Still in critical condition. The family is all expecting me to be the rock and if I get teary eyed everyone else breaks down. Everyone is looking to me for strength and leadership and I feel like I'm running out of both. It looks like his medical bills are going to exceed available insurance. If anyone has any ideas on how to help deal with that situation in terms of grants or other assistance please pm me. Update #5 Surgery went well yesterday. Placed screws into his pelvis to hold it together. Doc said no walking for at least 10 weeks after he wakes up. Said there may be a potential for chronic pain. Please god don't let that be the case. Spent most of the night at KU Med. I just woke up to a phone call from mom. His hurse at KU called and said he has had dramatic improvement overnight. He is awake and off the ventilator. Has written a note requesting his family return. Thanks so much for your prayers. They mean more than you could know. Update #6 Good and bad. Brother is doing excellent. Condition upgraded and removed from ICU. Gastric tube removed - YEAH FOOD! (right, it's hospital food). Small set back with nurses. Came back from dinner to find nurses with my brother sitting on the edge of his bed trying to get him to stand. Brother was gripping bed for dear life in agony. I was like WTF are you doing? He has a fractured pelvis, no weight bearing for 10 weeks. Nurse is like |

How do you figure the cop didn't start the chase? Prayers inbound. Let's not start a urinating contest over the chase and who's fault it is. The OP requests prayer for his brother which are obviously needed QFT. Assigning blame isn't job #1 right now, and ultimately has no bearing on what's most important. |
