I was helping a relative move this weekend and must of tweaked some thing in my lower back. It's not terrible, I'm just mildly uncomfortable when I'm moving around. Should I go in, or should I wait it out for a while? I've always been more of a wait it out guy...
I don't have a docter, but have very good insurance, just not real big on docters. I'm 24 and in decent shape. |

Go have a massage done, avoid bending it, pay attention to your posture and take OTC analgesics of needed.
If it continues to hurt after a few days, have it looked at. I've rolled/pinched nerves in my back plenty of times. It is generally pain, followed by intense numbness for a few hours, followed by pain. |

Thanks for the advice. I've been on the Alieve, and that doesn't seem to be doing much.

You can just go to a "Pain Management Clinic" and see a doc. They'll take good care of you. A sore back ought to be worth a month's supply of Oxycodone. Shoot, they might even give you some extra if you ask nicely. The office visit will be cash only but don't let that slow you down. After a few days on the cure you'll never be able to figure out how you lived without the stuff. |

Not my Intentions, never liked the feel of coming back down.
Watched my friend struggle with that after he shattered his leg. I'm going to have to be in more pain then this before that is even an option. |

As said backrubs and laying with your back straight will help.
Try lying on your back with a pillow under your neck, this helps for me with mid/upper back pain. If it is lower back, get a heating pad and lie down. try pulling your knees to your chest slowly. this should stretch any lower muscles out. For over the counter meds, try Doans back relief. It is the ONLY thing that will get me out of a jam. |

Unfortunately so many doctors are quick to prescribe medications and pain blockers before addressing the problem versus masking the symptoms; You'd be much better served by professional massages as well as adjusting posture and stretching than reaching for the medicine cabinet each time. |

ice, ice, and more ice, 15 minutes every hour... after 2 days you will want to apply moist heat.
if you get any numbness or tingling in any part of you legs, butt, groin, etc go see a neurologist. stay away from chiropractors, they do more harm than good, unless you let them just stretch you out and avoid the 'adjustment' if itis not gone in a few days go see a doctor... |

Much wisdom here. I used to suffer from chronic lower back pain after a pole climbing injury. I finally went to see a MD/DC who specialized in pain/sports injury. Ice is the key. Ice directly on the skin until numb. Muscles(mine anyway) spasm when injured which only further injures them. Use ibuprofen and ice to control the pain which will stop the spasms and then stretch and strengthen the muscles after a few days to prevent future re-injury. Good luck. I.C. |
