So I just read "Ambush alley". What is the moral of this story? It seems they wanted more detailed intel but the higher up was overly optimistic. Was it is simple as they should have just made the run up the highway? Was heading east fundamentally a good plan if not for the bogs? Should they have completed the mission first then rescued the army guys?
I also wonder if they counted on the firepower of the tanks but put too low a priority on the logistics behind them. I got the impression from the book that the entire battalion got rushed with a lot of fubar equipment potential. The whole thing sounded like a nightmare on every level. Seems Tarawa was an apt name. |
