Hunt studied the placement of the hands, crossed over the dead man's chest. The legs straight and side by side. "Somebody moved him," he said. "Maybe. We won't know anything for certain until the autopsy." Creases appeared in Hunt's forehead. He gestured at the body. "You don't think he landed in that position, do you?" The medical examiner grinned, suddenly looking all of twenty-five. "Just kidding, Detective. Trying to keep it light." "Well, don't." Hunt gestured at the shattered arm, the crooked leg. "You think those were broken when the car hit him or when he came over the bridge?" "Do you know for a fact that he was struck on the bridge?" What is the meaning of .... sudenly looking all of twenty-five. ??? Also, another quote and a question He barked a laugh. "My mom is one step away from foot washing and snake handling, Johnny man. You know that. She prays for my soul like I might burst into flame at any moment. She does it at home. She does it in public." what does it mean a woman one step away from foot washing and snake handling? Laugh at me all you want guys.  but please help!

Vitalis nailed it. The "suddenly looking all of twenty-five" reference refers to age. The apparently older coroner suddenly looked very vibrant, excited, youthful - as though they were twenty-five years of age again. The reference to foot washing and snake handling refers to more extreme/fringe Christianity groups. Foot washing was a biblical practice that some individuals think has some sort of special meaning today. Snake handling is a very, very fringe practice in which certain individuals wish to prove their faith in God by handling poisonous snakes. They believe God will keep the snakes from biting them. In short, the speaker is likely saying his mother is a devout Christian that is only one step away from going a bit loony in her devotion. |

Suddenly looking 25 means he suddenly looked young, youthful, etc. The second is a snake church reference I believe. -V yes to both..I assume the ME is an older man, who's own whit bought out a youthful exuberiance that showed in his face when he smiled.. the second would be a reference to Pentecostal Christians to the extreme. snake handling, talking in tongue's, following old testament practices, foot washing is both done prior to prayer and as a sign of respect for another person to wash their feet for them..Mary washed Jesus's feet when he entered a house..sandles, no sox, makes for pretty nasty feet over the course of the day and through out the middle is is both a hygiene issue and a religious one with Muslims |

I do that every once in a while.
I'll read something with the wrong inflection, wrong rhythm, wrong frame of mind, etc. and puzzle for days re-reading it over and over again wondering what the intention is. Then, after the upteenth review, it hits me and I'm like 'Duh'. |
