Looking for a long range solution. As we now have a 1000yd range setup nearby and i will be doing some hunting in the mountains out in Colorado next year. I fingered a Kimber .308 at the fun shop today and very well liked it. But other than the tikka t3 and rem 700 and kimber i really have no clue whats out there. Looking to spend 4k for Rifle Optics and Case (not sure on bipod). prefer .308 but am open to other calibers other than .50bmg.

Also any major advantage to getting the lifetime membership?

If I had 4k to drop, it wouldn't be on a long range rifle.

Look into paying down CC debt/savings/ammo.

If you're going to be shooting the full 1k yards, you're going to want more than a .308.

ETA:  If you have 4K to spend, look at US Optics or Nightforce I guess...those are the big two.

For paper or killing things?

Paper and steel it would be a 6.5 something on a bolt action, 700 or perhaps a Surgeon.

For killing things, hands down a big .30 or a .338 Lapua.

Actually, if I had 4k to blow, I'd be builiding myself a new F-class rife.

Dude, you need to head over the the Snipershide forum and see all the GAP rifles people are selling.  You can get a custom .308 in a Rem. 700 action for cheap (2,600-3,000).  It's really hard to beat a used GAP rifle for the price.  I wish that's what I did before I bought a New AI AE .308.  Oh, well.

This is the best advice so far.

A lot of the rifles capable of accuracy at 1000 yds, my own included are not the weight you'd want to be humping through the mountains.

For the money, the GAP rifles will give you the capability of accuracy in a rifle that's light enough to take out in the field.

I would either get a GAP or SR25 EMC

Sadly I have to agree.

Ammo is still coming down in price.

Start with the Sako TRG and add a Leupold MKIV in a LaRue Tactical mount and you will still be under 4k.

American Precision Arms.

GAP.

ETC..

For 4K you can have a sweet rifle.

Or you can stay simple.

Buy a Reminton 700, and a Schmidt.

Why QD on LR rig?

Go Badger or Seekins for rings and rail.

LaRue rules, on AR's with BUIS.

I'm a LaRue fan also, most of my AR's are LaRue equipped.  However in this case, with the TRG 22, I wouldn't go that route.

I use a Near base with Seekin's rings on mine.  If you want a QD base for the TRG, look at the Sako.

By the time you add a base, glass and rings, sling, bipod, you're looking at about 14#.  That's a bit of weight to cart through the woods, at least up here, it would be a pita.

Sako makes a pretty nice mount for their TRGs it definitely seems to hold up well to the Lapua.

A used GAP and a NF NXS. Hell, you might even be able to find a NEW GAP for that coin and have room left for a NXS
