This has probably been posted before, but I think it is worthy of a repost.  I just stumbled across it in a thread on another site.

Great site, story and effort to preserve such a great place.  I'd love visit there as well as so many other major WWI and WW2 locations.

I was just in his hometown last month [ Pall Mall ,Tenn.] and went to the cemetary where he's buried.  i spent 2 hours wandering around that cemetary in 95 degree heat writing down verses on grave stones. They are if not heart wrenching, they are at least an education as to just how devout in their faith the people are/were. Alot of infant and toddlers, but every damn one of them has a beautiful verse on their stone. " The soul of a child is the loveliest flower that grows in the Garden of God", " Sleep on sweet babe and take thy rest"," In heaven there is one Angel more", " A fairer bud of promise never bloomed", " A little time on earth he spent, till God for him his Angel sent" etc. The people at that time didn't have 2 nickels to rub together they were so poor, but they made sure each stone had a beautiful verse on it.  Sgt. Yorks son Andrew Jackson York is a park Ranger around the corner at the York Grist Mill and gives tours thru the home that the Tenn. Society built for Sgt. Yorks return home. They filmed that movie on location there and the church at the cemetary is the one in the movie where he got religion, the rocky outcrop where he pondered and prayed for guidence can be seen from the cemetary. For those who are GREAT admirers of Sgt. York, Pall Mall isn't a touristy place, it is truely well off the beaten path, but it is honestly a Pilgramage to a spot where one of the GREATEST AMERICAN HEROES was borned and raised!
