I'd like to find and download a freeware program that will allow me to see/watch what is being downloaded to my PC, real time.
While doing some stuff on the internet I noticed that even if a page had stopped loading there was still a considerable amount of data being sent to my machine. I'd like to know what it is and who it is. What program is updating, etc. Task manager doesn't seem to give me the info that I want, at least not in form I want to see it. Thanks. Pav |

Fuggetaboutit.
Unless you can read packet info, not worth the time or effort. Most of it is communication between devices for timing and stay-alive issues. Very little is actually hard-core data unles you are requesting something like a web page or anti-virus updates or downloading programs. |

Look @ sysinternals. Microsoft bought the whole thing a few years ago. This might do it. |

OK, first off I've got dial-up with no other options. So even what you guys might consider nothing is a lot to me. What bothers me, is bothering me, is that even when a page has finished loading I have been seeing activity on the little green monitor icon in the task bar. If I open it to 'see status' I have been seeing on the order of 4K, maybe k, still being sent to my PC. Right now, while typing this, the icon is dark except for the occasional flicker. I consider that normal. I want to know what application is causing that to be sent to me. Something is either updating or adding on and I would like to know what it is.

The windows 7 task manager has what's called Resource Monitor. It lets you see which programs are accessing the network and how much traffic they are using. Sounds like a great time to upgrade ![]() What programs are you running? Some run big transfers in the background. |

So even if the page has finished loading it might be pulling more data down. |

Most webpages are not designed with 56k in mind. They will obviously take you longer to download all the flash components of the site. |

This won't tell you what program is using how much, but it will tell you how much and also log it over time. I've been using the portable version to log my bandwidth usage for a year. I just copy the program folder over to every new OS reinstall. Download links on the right side of page. http://www.softperfect.com/products/networx/ ETA: I forgot to mention the program is free. |
