We go back & forth between storage (usually in the plastic bag from the store) in the vegetable drawer in the fridge and storing them loose in a basket/bowl on the counter. What method of spud storage provides the longest shelf life with the least waste?

I've decided paper bag in the fridge is best.

I dunno.....wife brings them home and throws them in the potato bin, then waits till the roots engulf the kitchen and I have to machete a path back to the bin.

....then she finally throws them out , and goes and buys another bag.

Did you know that green potatoes are poisonous???

Here's potato storage recommendations:

Potatoes should be kept in a cool, dark place with good ventilation. The ideal storage temperature is 45 to 50ºF. At these temperatures, potatoes will keep for several
weeks. But don't store potatoes in the refrigerator! When kept below 40ºF, potatoes develop a sweet taste, due to the conversion of starch to sugar. This increased sugar causes potatoes to darken when cooked. If you store potatoes at room temperature, try to use them within a week or so.

Keep potatoes away from prolonged exposure to light, which causes them to turn green. This greening causes a bitter flavor. If potatoes develop green areas or start to sprout, just trim off these areas before using.

We put them in a 12x12' in ground root cellar, dark and cool year around.  Spuds look as good in the spring as were dug up in the fall.

My parents have that.  It's amazing how well things store there.
