I dunno..
but the AMA has not been kind to Ortho docs performing Knees and Hips. a large percentage of them are either unwarranted or do not give the patient relief.

Good Luck!!

Back in 1985 my dad had one knee replaced. It hurt like hell but his experience with it was so positive that a year later, he had his other knee replaced, and 30 days later was riding a bicycle.

And the techniques they used then are 25 years old now! So your experience should be pretty good.

I had a complete left knee replacement last nov. Nothing to brag about. Less pain than before. Nothing can replace the knee you were born with! To top things off I now have to carry a card so I can pass thru metal detectors. Be ready to loose alot of weight! I lost almost 40lbs. I never got hungry in the hospital and they wanted me to shit before leaving? Take care!

btw: try checking out knee replacements on youtube. Best of luck!

My Grandpa had both done maybe 7 years ago.  He was active but overweight.  He is now 77 years old, and still umpires baseball and volleyball.  Had to give up basketball, but he's loving his new knees.  Still active, still overweight, but if I'm in the same shape as he is in when I'm 77 I'll consider it a blessing.

Guy at work has his knee replaced.  Don't be like him and sit on your ass all day eating junk food afterwards. Then wonder how come you gained 40 pounds.

I had my right knee done in 08 and my left done in 09.  I am more active now than have been in the last decade.  My knees felt better the day after the surgery than the day before the surgery.  If they offer the morphine ball in the spine take it it works wonders.  Rehab is a Bitch. Take the pain killer the give you so it is at full strength before you get to rehab, you will feel better that not taking it till you get to rehab.  Rehab is especially a no pain no gain type of deal .  One last thing beware of the Physical Terrorists  They are there to help you but DARN IT THEY HURT.    Seriously I am really glad I had the knees done.  My pain before had had limited my life to setting in front of the tv, now I am shooting fishing Kayaking take the dogs for walks everything I had missed.    Good Luck  It worked for me.  Oh Yeah the pain killers will make you constipated so the more that is in there the worst it is.

When I did my clinicals for nursing I had a bunch of knee replacement patients.

Be proactive about your PT, it sucks but the more you put into it the better.

Keep on top of your pain control. Take some pain relief before you go to PT and before the pain gets up.

Don't wait until you're really hurting because the pain meds take a little while to kick in.

Also the patients with the naropin infusion I worked with had almost no pain at all.

Best of luck.

Good luck. I have to be there at 0500 so it sounds like I got a early spot.  This'll be my 5th and 6th knee surgery.
ETA-I've lost 30lbs in the last 2 months and will continue to shed the weight to take care of the new knee.

That is good. Sounds like you are the first case!! You got a fresh crew and no one else's germs are floating around the OR.
Remember dont' drink or eat after midnight and consider getting a spinal, if your anesthetist or anesthesiologist recommends it. Good luck and Godspeed.

Had it done last year.  Surgery on Thursday, went home Wends. and put the walker to the side on Friday.  It took me seven months to be 100%.  Would do it again in a second.
