Hmmm.
I pay a lot in property taxes. The school in my neighborhood reflects that. People who live in the city pay a lot of property taxes too. Their schools do not reflect that. They are run-down. I AM AGAINST BUSING THE CHILDREN TO DIFFERENT AREAS. When my family and I first moved to Georgia. My daughter did not go to the school two miles away. She got bussed to a school 8.5 miles away. I went to the school one day when I got released early. It was old, they were under budgets cuts, the school was going to be shut down if they could not get their students to pass the "tests" that are given every year to gauge a schools performance. I pulled my daughter out that week. The program does not JUST help people who are "unfortunate" to live in the city. It was screwing my child out of a good school, an area I choose on that account, the reason I was paying high property taxes, and many other solid reasons. The article is one sided. I personally believe, if you really care about what school your child attends, because you love him/her/them so much. Work hard, better your lives, and move, or just drive your child to school everyday. It cost me a small fortune to leave work every morning after PT to go pick her up and drop her off, but I would do anything for my children! |

nothing like a program designed to promote equality and better those that are less fortunate, but really only brings down the nice schools and ruins the kids that get sent to the shitty schools. there is no net gain from the bussing scheme. More liberal bullshit social engineering. And ending this practice would not be segregation. sending kids to the school closest to them is not segregation. So many people of the same ethnicity choosing to be a piece of shit collecting welfare and living in the ghetto is self-segregation. Why should hard-working people and their kids be penalized for lazy motherfuckers that just want to milk the system while they teach their kids how to get into the family business of killing whitey, selling/using drugs, and driving their escalade to the store to buy steak and lobster with food stamps.

I was bussed outside of my neighborhood..I think it was an awesome experience.
For all those who are against it––you have to realize that every single black kid (*clearing throat*) is not a shit bag, drug dealing, prositute, trouble maker. I did really well––made great friends and got a chance not only to learn about others but have people realize that all of one race is not the same. |

They bused my wife my wife to a black school in Omaha in the '70s. You can imagine what happened to the handfull of white kids at the school. Total BS. The same thing happened in Oakland and her grand parents pulled her and her sister out and paid for a private school. |

I am sure the program has done good things for children who were born to parents who did not give them the best opportunity that they could.
My point is that my child was getting the shaft. (A reference to the pike, a long pole with a sharp tip.) The program had good intentions, but like all things, it doesn't just do good things. The program does not work. My wife had to log a complaint with the Army, who then called the school board on our child's behalf. I can see, and agree with busing some children to a better school/area. I DISAGREE with sending a child to a school in a different area that is rated less than the one zoned where they live. There is no way to justify that. |

I'm sorry to hear that––it sucks..Elementary and Middle School were really good for me..High School––not so much..I had some issues..Some people figured that it wasn't so cool to hang out with the "cool black chick" after all..And you know what––it wasn't so pretty..But I learned something from that––Everyone is not all good––but everyone is not all bad either.. I hope your wife doesn't feel that all black people are a certain way.. |

It does not matter the color of your skin, but if "I" pay higher taxes or move to a nicer area so my kids could go to a better school, and then some bureaucrat decides to bus my kids elsewhere I would be PISSED. |

The problem I noticed in the service was that I could get on real well with the older Black guys but the younger ones were generaly pretty decent guys until they all got together and became hood rats with a pack mentality. I don't understand. The black guys from the south were some of the nicest guys I ever met. |

For the record. The school found to be lacking is Port Wentworth in the Savannah Area.
The school's primary language is Spanish. It is a POS. My Daughter's teacher is a good person and cares about her job. I do not blame her or her coworkers. The students all spoke Spanish at home. By large, their parents were undocumented workers who had children born in the States. My children are mulatto. I don't care for labels, tags, etc. My point of view is this: I'll be damned if my children get less than what I can give or have worked hard for. |
| When my family fell on hard times and it looked like I would have to attend a public school in Cleveland (something my dad worked hard to avoid), I wouldn't have been able to attend the junior high down the street. They were going to bus me to the east side. Ridiculous. Don't know how my dad made the money to ensure I was kept in a private K-8 school. My mom got a job at the private high school I attended to work off my tuition and keep me out of Cleveland public schools and being bussed all over creation. I am immensely grateful that they loved me that much. |

Yes, I'd be PISSED if I moved to a nice area that had good schools close and paid a shit-ton in property taxes, only to have my kids bussed to a school further away in a shittier neighborhood. PISSED. Same here If you want to bo the a certan school move to that area, the people in that area are the ones paying to have it. |

Theres a whole LOT of people out there shittin' out kids that aren't paying into the system, but rather do their best to drain it. |

80% are the same. My city has a mostly black high school. Not one male there passed the state assessment exams last year, they have armed school police in all the halls. They had to fire the admin there once already under No Child Left Behind, and now this crew is getting down to their last chance.
The solution proposed is to ship the students all around to mix up the populations. Not really seeing how that is going to do anything but hurt white kids. Quoted:

I went to a junior high school in Jackson, Michigan in the sixties. The school was very nice. Even had a swimming pool. Everyone got along and there were no distractions other than the girls wearing miniskirts. The school hosted 'all-sports' parties once in a while on Friday nights when the gym, pool, and cafeteria were open to the students like it was some kind of private club.
Then the school board made a decision to transfer two busloads of kids from across town. That was like dropping a lit match into a fresh gasoline spill. One friendly policy that didn't survive the influx was credit at the cafeteria. That got so abused it ended quickly. If you forgot your lunch money, you were going hungry that day. The conflict between the new arrivals and the rest of us continued to degenerate to the point we had self-segregated lavatories. The new kids held a sit-in where they blocked the main hallway so that classes had to be canceled. They demanded their own track team, their own all-sports parties, and a bunch of other things I can't remember. I do remember the vicious many-to-one fights though. I remember these kids going into the library and spitting huge lungers into the books and returning them to the shelves. I remember the open hostility and disrespect these kids showed to the teachers. Of course, that is just the tip of the iceberg. Needless to say, this made a big impression on an eighth grader which is probably why my kids never saw the inside of an integrated school until they got to college. Somebody has to take care of the rest and it's going to be easier if they get a good education. |

The state treats your children as political fodder and property. Private school or homeschool. Love your children, don't punish your children. I agree...We homeschool.. And I don't think it has anything to do with race. I think there might be one or two other black kids in my daughter's old school..Sometimes schools and school districts are shitty no matter the race of the kids.. YMMV.. |
