I just called by local dealer about what he would charge to handle the transfer for me on an AR15.com lower. His quote - $125. When I asked him why so much, his response was because I sell lowers, so if you want to have me handle the transfer on something I sell, then I have to recoup the profit I am loosing by not selling you one of my lowers. It is his business and he is free to price his services however he wants, but I am not going to be buying from him anymore. |
You can buy lowers for less than $125, which means the dealer's making $20 at most on each one. I'd find another dealer - National List of FFL's, Courtesty of ATF. The XL spreadsheets are easier to search than the text files. |

Wow. He must not need any business. There's one here that will do them for $10. It's a pawn shop but the owners are cool and know their shit. I would have never found the place if not for their cheap transfers. Seems like good business to me.
Maybe he's taking a stand against the internets? Bet he isn't able to defeat them. |

My local shop went full retard a year ago too. I don't remember if it was $75 or $100 for a transfer but I have not been in the shop since. I drive to another shop that is about 45-minutes away that charges $20 and now I buy everything I need from them instead! I bet the old shop had to raise their fees more to cover the losses of their high fees

I had a Saber lower transferred last month and he kept telling me about the mixed parts Bushmaster he had for $900. I have to make up excuses why I don't buy the $450 used and beat up Glocks every time I go in or that I can build a brand new AR with top quality parts for the same price. |

He's operating under the false assumption that your options are: A) Buy lower elsewhere with him transfering it. B) Buy lower from him directly He's forgetting Option C. C) Buy lower elsewhere and have someone else transfer it for a competitive price. His loss, go find someone who will make the transfer for you. My local guy charges $20. |

The local dealer used to charge between $100 if it was anything he had in stock or could have in stock. He retired and closed up his shop. The other dealer in town refuses to do transfers.
