Thanks... Depends on the state, you need to clarify further. Where to and from and by what route? Rule of the thumb though stay the fuck out of NY, NJ, Mass, and Commifornia. WA, IL, Conn, and Or are not friendly either IIRC. |

Research the Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986 and the laws of the state you are taking the guns to.
Essentially, interstate transport of non-NFA firearms from a state where the gun is legal to another state where the gun is legal is allowed and protected. That includes traveling THROUGH states where the gun is illegal (though there is the possibility of getting arrested anyway in those states––driving through Illinois with a few ARs was nerve racking). But, again, you need to know if your firearms are legal for you to possess and use in the state you are going to. ETA: There are rules about how to store the weapons and ammo in your car, but I don't remember those rules, so please look them up or wait for another arfcommer to state them. |

i think as long as they aren't NFA items you're G2G, you might even be alright on the NFA stuff but i thought i read somewhere you couldn't........ hopefully someone else will chime in you need ATF written permission to transport NFA items across state line IIRC, state laws apply as well. |

Transportation is protected by federal law. U.S. Criminal code title 18, chapter 44, section 926A, addresses the question.
Edit § 926A. Interstate transportation of firearms Notwithstanding any other provision of any law or any rule or regulation of a State or any political subdivision thereof, any person who is not otherwise prohibited by this chapter from transporting, shipping, or receiving a firearm shall be entitled to transport a firearm for any lawful purpose from any place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm to any other place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm if, during such transportation the firearm is unloaded, and neither the firearm nor any ammunition being transported is readily accessible or is directly accessible from the passenger compartment of such transporting vehicle: Provided, That in the case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver’s compartment the firearm or ammunition shall be contained in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console. |

Most states that I've been in don't care about rifles and shotguns as long as they are cased although Ohio is pretty uptight about having ball ammo in plain sight and West Virginia requires all rifles to be cased and unloaded at night and on Sundays. ![]() +
