[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Report Button Comedy (Page 1 of 3)

What are the funniest reasons the mods/staff have seen for someone hitting the report button? There's got to be some lulz at times.
|
I got about 8 reports yesterday, all on the same thread.
Looking closer, I realized they were all from the same person.
He had apparently intended to hit "Cancel" but hit "Report" instead.
The most common? Allegations of personal attacks, surprisingly not filed by the "victim" as a matter of course. That said, there have been a number of times where folks will start a p*ssing match in a thread, find themselves losing badly, then hit "report" and claim they're being attacked, when a quick review of the thread shows that they were the ones who started first.

Can you report a moderator for sending you unsolicited self nude pics??? Edit: Hypothetically speaking of course. |

Quoted: I have never reported anything hit the button coupe times on accident Its the internet grow a skin or log out This. Can anyone explain why the ignore button has a confirmation window pop up, but the report button doesn't? Ignore is user-fixable after the fact, but submitting a report is irretreivable. |

You can cancel an report. |

I have never reported anything hit the button coupe times on accident Its the internet grow a skin or log out Came to post this almost exactly That's all well and good, but there are very legitimate uses for the report button that have nothing to do with sandy manginas, like reporting posts advocating illegal activity or other COC violations that could have a negative effect on the site. |

I don't know if it even sent a "report" |

I might be responsible for the stupidest best report of all time. I got tricked by a fake hotlink when the Report button was new. I didn't know what the pop up was for so I typed in "bacon". You didn't do anything wrong, I'm sure the mods don't want to miss out on any bacon incidents. |

This. I've only filed a few reports in all my time here but in every case it was for clear CoC violatons, not because I was butt-hurt about something. |

I've just been posting an apology to the accidently reported poster in the same thread, with a note asking the responding Mod to disregard my fumblefingered-ness .

A known troll on this site starts a shitty thread and then hides behind the report button. How much longer will he be allowed to do this? |

Don't know which, I remember reading some folks having problems with this in the past. Probably have to start a thread in the tech support forum to get it sorted out. The expected behavior when you click "report" is a dialog box comes up. In the dialog box, you type in a reason for the report. You can either click "OK" to submit the report, or cancel to cancel it. |

I don't know if it is a Firefox issue, or if it has been resolved, but just a few weeks ago, if you reported a thread, you got stuck in the Report From Hell Loop. Even if you hit report by accident, it wouldn't cancel and the report box continued to pop up. Had to shut down Firefox completely to get rid of it. It might explain the 8 reports from the same person, about the same thread. If not, could be drugs. |
