Maybe at the Lenovo Outlet. But those are mostly C2D chips. But they are Thinkpads, which are better constructed than Ideapads.

I say go for it.

I also called them up and asked what they could give me for a student discount and it was $840+ tax, the laptop is originally $1000

The only way to get a better computer is to step up to a business model, as the build quality will be better. BUT you will lose some of the bells and whistles like high end gaming cards.

It all depends on what you will do with it. A Thinkpad T series is a built far better, but is much more costly and does not come with the fat gaming card.

Sounds like a good deal,  jump on it.  Although it is bottle necked by the 5400rpm HD.

I got the Y550P i7 and love it!

Looks like a reasonable deal to me. Comparable HP (faster HD, worse graphics) is slightly cheaper after 30% bing cashback but then you have the hassle of waiting for the cashback. I would also prefer Lenovo over HP.

Definetly a 7200rpm drive, unless I can find a 100+ gb SSD for a good price

Dealing with them when things go south is not fun.

ETA: lenovo that is. The difference in service when things go south is what sets most mfg's apart.

I'd rather slit my rists then be suckered into buying a mac.

A PC is just like any other machine or tool. If you dont know how to maintain it, then you shouldnt own one.

SHIT

Apparently bing is supposed to have 30% off on hp.com tomorrow. That means I could get the ENVY 14" with the same configuration as above but with a 7200rpm harddrive and a 1600x900 display, and the display is supposed to be the HIGHEST QUALITY display available in a laptop.
