trying to fix a friends laptop. getting a bluescreen within a few mins of booting up.  says memory_managment..i told them to backup everything and id format and install windows 7 for them..they have an upgrade disk..

so i booted up with 64bit win7 upgrade and it wont load... i try 32bit and when i click install i get the same blue screen...

any ideas?

No offense- I'm sure you'll get it to work- but I have sworn off "upgrading" MS OS's.  Get the full version.  My hate for "upgrades" started from windows 95 from 3.x and encompasses every other major piece of software I have to deal with since then- including SolidWorks (every damn year).

i agree..but it aint mine..plus ill have it do a clean install

Never upgrade. Just do another install. It moves all the old files to Windows.old anyway.

I'd do some googling to see if there is a rash of HW failures of that specific mobo.  It might give you some idea of the underlying issue.  For them to conclude 'bad board' that quickly tells me they've seen similar failures before...
