I love this place! Any other fans?
I moved here 2 months ago from my beloved Texas. Took my kids out diving and snorkeling today and we all had a ball. They took to it like white on rice, Tomorrow a road trip to Key West. Life is good! Kids are healthy, bills are paid, I am blessed! |
|
I love the Keys. I would love to be able to afford to live there, but alas I can't. They're beautiful from the start to the end. I had to keep telling myself to watch the road when I was driving down there. You truly are blessed.
The only downside I can see would be the hurricanes. I know they're not real "regular, but a one way, two lane escape isn't my idea of a fast way out. |

I'd love to move there too. I can still love my UT Longhorns from the beach. Seriously, how'd you do it? Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile they were hiring police officers a few months ago I've been with my SO for 12 years. Any more openings? All kidding aside I'd like to send you an IM next week with some questions, if you don't mind. I'm on my iphone this week so I'd rather wait to get back to the office. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

what the hell do you do for a job? lol either your living in a cardboard box, you commute a long ways, or you make the bank I am living in a gutted house that I am remodeling for resale. Right now its just me and my dog, Marley. The kids and wife came for a visit. And I'm working on my RE license. I'm in Key Largo, which is a kick ass town to be in. Not gonna move to Key West however. It's a great place to visit. Plus the diving is better here. Lobster mini season coming up! |

Hope the oil don't come around... ETA: Would like to go there next spring. If'n no oil shows up on the beaches this year. NOAA has suspended the forecast for an impact date due to a low probability of it hitting us. The loop current is saving our ass. Water is clean, beer is cold, come vacation down here! |

I like the keys but are there actually jobs there? Also, do you have to wash the hippies at the end of the day? Or is that your job? You either work in hospitality, government, or are self employed down here. From what I've observed, a strong work ethic and some skill goes a long way. |

If you need a car wash make a quick trip to Homestead and go to Captain Car Wash Hand wash, good prices and he takes care of his customers. |

You get your ass back to Texas son... Oh don't worry, its still home. At least down here my vote can cancel out a Dade or Broward voter. We got TX locked up. As long as you stay faithful to the motherland.... The Keys are beautiful. If I ever ger rich, I would love to own a little house down that way. |

Also, the people in Key Largo I've encountered are friendly, helpful, resourceful, and the community feeling here reminds me of the small town in the Panhandle that I grew up in. Great town to raise kids in. The schools in Monroe County kick ass.
I've yet to meet a Conch that is an asshole. And the highest speed limit is 55. This place is laid back! |

Awesome Conch Fritters, great crab cakes. Toss a little of your lunch over the rail and check out the Resident Mangrove Snapper. If you toss it long enough the fish get bigger. |

I love the keys, too expensive for me to ever live there though. You'd be surprised. The taxes here are half of Dade County's. If you don't mind living off the water, affordable housing can be had. Hadn't really studied Key West's market yet, but I know that town is expensive. The Upper Keys are where its at. |

I had one around 500 get in my face and start slamming his gill plates once. Kind of intimidating. |

I never really cared about much else. Card Sound Bridge at night is a great place to catch snook and tarpon by the way. Oh and hit edge of the reef at night on the next full moon for some phenominal Mangrove snapper fishing. The spawn is on. I usually take the big ones at the mid depth around 40-50 ft on live crabs. |

And I'm thinking about taking some tech courses and get into deep wreck penetration and deco diving. |
