Bob was a man at war with himself. In a moment of weakness, he had committed an act he later found he could neither forget, nor forgive.
No matter what he tried to tell himself, every flimsy rationalization was met with that maddening little voice in his head rebutting "But Bob,..." The situation got so bad that, late one night, alone in his office, it degenerated into a one sided shouting match. "Why won't you just go away and leave me alone!?!" But Bob, I'm your conscience. I can't leave you alone. You know what you've done. "Geez, it's not like I committed a federal offense or anything. It's not even illegal in all 50 states!" But Bob, you know full well it's illegal in this state, and a violation of your personal and professional ethics. "Nobody got hurt. Who's the victem here? I certainly didn't hear her complaining!" But Bob, you know no one is going to call that consent. "Oh please!!! To hear you go on you'd think it had never happened before. I'm certainly not the first or the last doctor to have sex with a patient!" But Bob,..... .....you're a veterinarian. |
