Wire guided? I could track it visually until about a second from impact.

I thought the same thing.

When it first impacted I thought the video was showing the toughness of the tank and then boom.

Looks like it went up to direct it's force down on to the top of the tank.

So how exactly can you defend against an attack like that? Seems like it makes a tank kind of useless if you can just take it out with one of those so easily.

Lots of suppressive fire on the launching position might help a little.

reactive armor or a system that shoots the incoming rounds out of the air.

I'm not too sure our "enemies" have much of that gear. I could be wrong.

Saddam sure as hell didn't.

Pfffttt.. That's old tech.  If you thought that was cool.

check this fire and forget goodness.

They can use reactive armor all the want.  This one can strike from the top.

ETA: and this one.

Better armor and ammo storage.

Main armor and reactive armor tiles can defeat most anti-tank rockets out there, at least in most critical areas. You might get a mobility kill by taking out a track, or blow up the ammo storage, but the crew will probably survive and start shooting back. New missiles, like the Javelin, attack from the top, where most tanks have very thin armor and little or no reactive tiles. That's very effective, but also makes the missile much, much more complex.

The best way, though, is to keep them from ever being fired by screening with dismounted infantry.

That's the killing point of all Russian designed tanks; their ammo storage is in a rotating magazine under the turret, which is unarmored. Western tanks, like the M1 Abrams, Challenger Mk2, Leclerc and Leopard series tanks store their ammo at the rear of the turret in an armored vault, designed to explode away from the crew compartment.

and of course, the weak point of ANY tank is the seam between the turret and the hull; we learned that quick in GW1, where all the Iraqi armor we hit ended up with a catastrophic turret launch.
