My wife and I are into our second year of home vegetable gardening.  Last year all of my tomatoes were destroyed by late blight and this year it looks like my pepper crop may have shit the bed.  Any advice as to cause, treatment and or preventative measures for the future would be appreciated greatly.

First, some facts:

- They were planted roughly 5-6 weeks ago

- We have had a lot of rain

- The garden is mulched

- We're growing green, gold, red and chocolate bells, serranos, red habs, cayennes and jalapenoes

- All of the plants are suffering to differing degrees currently but it started and is most advanced in the bells

Here's some pics that will hopefully help:

first is just a picture of the peppers in general:

Next is two pictures that shows what is happening, the leaves are falling off the stalk starting from the bottom:

This one shows a leaf with an early stage of the condition, it starts as brown spots and tiny holes:

This one has a leaf in an advanced stage, completely yellow and soon to fall off the stalk:

The final 2 pictures are of jalapeno plants with the same problem:

I initially thought cercospora fungus based on a google search but that is supposed to only affect bells???

Any advice will be appreciated, thanks in advance!

Alternaria leaf spot possibly?  Wife just looked that up in a book and it seems like it might be a good fit.

Food and Garden link

You might go over to Outdoors:  Food and Garden.  There are a couple of thread on peppers going right now.  ETA:  They are on page 3 now.

Everything I'm reading and googling leads me to believe I have some sort of fungal infection and watering is contra indicated.  I'm curious as to to what you base your conclusion on?  I'm not being inflammatory, it's just that your suggestion is diametrically opposed to the way I was leaning.  I lack experience in this area so I'd like to hear more.

Thanks!

Thank you, didn't realize we had that forum.  I crossposted over there.

Thanks again!

Neighbor came over and said fertilizer was my issue.  He put some Miracle Gro down and said I should be good.  He's a WW II vet and I will defer to his judgment.

Peppers love Epsom Salts.

1 spoonful around the base of each plant, and then water.  Repeat in 2 weeks.

The crinkled leaves are a sighn that they need calceam. Try bone meal for that. The rest I am not sure. I love peppers and if I get a chance I will post some pictures this year has been the best year yet for me I am pickling two jars a week and eating the rest.

Most peppers do well with well draining soil, little water, and hot temperatures.

It does look like some sort of disease but peppers tend to be pretty hardy plants ... wait, I see the problem ...

... looks like your California Wonder has spread liberalism through your garden and none of the plants want to work for a living.

Why the mulch?  The roots need O2 too.  I break the soil up with a hoe around mine, then water them.  Soak them, let the soil go almost dry and soak them again.  Use a hoe for weed control, not mulch.
Espoma garden fertilizer if you think you need some.
