Why is it that on deadliest catch they dont have a better way of clearing ice than hammers?
Why not use hot water from the boats engine?
Even using seawater would melt the ice.
Am I missing something here?

I figured in that tempature it would just freeze up again.

Using hot water would raise the ocean temp and the crabs only bite when the water is cold.

Just a guess, but that ice came from sea water spray.  I don't think spraying more water on it (unless it's super hot water) is going to really help things much.

Takes ALOT of energy to transition a phase of water.

And at that kind of temperature, it would probably be WAY too much of a burn hazard.  Plus any spray that would come from it would just freeze up elsewhere.

It's faster to smash it.

I've used steam to clear ice and its slow.

There is no "hot" water that they can just start spraying from the engine.
