I have a 9220y desktop.  I am getting a 2 beep followed by 8 beeps POST Code.  What does it mean?

You may have to call HP tech support. Sometimes the OEMS are very quiet about their beep codes, they want your $$$ for support plus issue tracking. The call should be free to get the beep code info.

Is it 2 longs and 8 shorts?

I can't say for sure if they are longer than the others.  It is definately 2 then 8 though.

If you have AMI bios the only *8 beep code has to do with video memory.

Likely 2 - memory parity error  then 8 - Video memory.

Just a guess tho cause I don't know what you have exactly.

I'm guessing system memory. Some limited Googling (so it may be wrong) suggests your mainboard is Award BIOS. I don't see any mention of 1 beep followed by 8 beeps though.

It probably does have something to do with video or some such.  I have recently had problems with my optical drive and now the monitor won't come on (using my laptop right now to type this).
