So, some sectors went bad in my laptop hard drive.  I removed it and have it connected to my desktop.  I can pretty much access all my files.  I am trying to recover my outlook pst file but am having problems.  The file is huge (4.7 GB).  I tried copying it to my desktop hd but it stops copying with about 1.6 GB to go.  I created a new profile in outlook on my desktop and can open the pst file, no problems, from the laptop disk.  If I try to export the file to my c:\, it gets stuck and gives me an error.  I was able to export some of my folders one by one, but not all.  I was able to archive a lot of the stuff as well and was able to put the archive pst file on my c:\.  I am trying to reduce the size of my original pst file, but even after the archive, it only went down to 4.6 GB (compressed after the archive).  Even with moving the folders to their own pst files, the file size stays the same.  Any ideas?  I have a backup of this file but it is about 3 months old, and I have a lot of critical emails in that time frame.  I am trying to recover as much as possiable so I can rebuild my original pst file.

Others may disagree but i discourage all of my users from letting their PSTs get bigger than 1GB. You may be dealing with a corrupt pst or the bad sectors. Not sure. scanpst is good tool but i have only had about 50/50 success with it. And it cant fix what isnt there.
Create a new pst(or 4) and start moving mail manually. Copy, dont move.  Good luck.

I'm searching for the scanpst.exe right now.  I have created the new pst file, but I can;t copy some of the folders even though there really is no problem with them that I can see.  I can access and use them, no problem.
