Recent arrivals from Russia prohibition of entry Italy in organizing the national union. refusal to Trieste to Italy and want to vote for the fornt? Trieste bordered Yugoslavia along the costline in the Gulf of Trieste in the Adriatic Sea and had a small border with Italy to the North. It was originally part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, but it was taken over by a ton of different countries in the early 20th Century, including Germany, Italy and Yugoslavia. During WWI they had a union with Italy, which I think they're talking about in that poster. After WWII it was made an independent City State, but split in two, Trieste A and Trieste B. Trieste A was governed by the United States military for about ten years until it was dissolved in 1954 and given to Italy. Trieste B was given to Yugoslavia. So I take the sign to mean that if you've just arrived in Trieste from Russia, you are not allowed to enter Italy through its borders in accordance with the National Union. Trieste is a fascinating place, I'd really like to visit sometime. |

Thanks everyone,
The "Front" were the socialists/communist coalition AFAIK If anyone has any more insight on this that would be great, thanks. Hmmm....we, the US, probably paid for this poster indirectly seeing as we were pumping lotsa cash into the Italian anti-commie Christian Democrat party at the time. |
