Google only brings up folks trying to sell stuff. Anyone know of any good things to try at home? Stretches or anything? ETA no diagnosis yet, just starting off like it so far. |
| Nerve blocks, plenty of morphine, Duragesic patches and the new 5% Lidoderm Patches thay came out with a few years back. Last eleven months I've been relatively pain free. Go figure. Three years of heavy dope will wear you though. Since I retired the problem has gone away for the most part - but I do modify certain physical movements. At one point they wanted to install a morph. pump , I declined - just before I left work one guy's wife's pump discharged all of what was in the pump and she passed. Good luck! |

Need more info. I have had two doctors put me through the ringer 2 separate times when I had sciatica caused by ruptured disks they failed to diagnose. If there is any possibility you ruptured a disk or caused spinal damage you need to see a neurologist for an MRI asap. Remember, neurologists work on nerves (sciatica) and orthopedics are for bones. Have you seen a doctor and what are his credentials? |
| Hello fellow traveler. In all seriousness, reduce the size of your wallet to bare essentials. Put the rest in a front pocket, but just not the one where you have your deep back-up pocket pistol. Second, look into Spinal Decompression therapy. I suggest you go online to www.radio-locator.com and input 'wbap' in dallas tx. Listen for a while during the day, contact them, then find out if there is a practitioner in your area. It won't work for me because of 25 years of racquetball on the UF outdoor courts did me a long term injustice. ( tho it kept me the healthiest i've ever been whilst I was a player). Sciatica is often due to inordinate pressures on the spinal nerves, that can be alleviated by reducing the pressure on disks, and spinal orientation. I suffered long term hip rotation issues as a result of my obsessive R-ball addiction, that lead to sciatica, and eventually a pending hip replacement sked for this summer. Feel free to email or im me if you have any questions. 44-40 pro |

See a doctor and get X-rays so you know for sure what's wrong. Then talk to some construction workers about who a good chiropractor is. It's taken 6 weeks now, but I'm nearly over my sciatica. A pinched nerve is nearly impervious to pain killers(my experience anyway), and then there are the sore muscles that come with it. Let me guess, you feel like you have a charley horse in your asscheek almost all the time? Anyway a chiropractor was the only thing that worked for me. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

If you couldn't touch your toes without bending your knees, you may have tight hamstrings. If you are between 20 and 30, you may have a herniated disk.
to stretch your hamstrings, put one heel at sink level and feel the stretch in your raised leg. Hold for 30 seconds, switch legs and repeat. roll up a towel when driving and place in the lumbar region of your back. Get a lumbar roll. Stretch every morning and evening. Learn to keep your back straight when bending, keep a small curve in the small (lumbar) of the back. Good luck, |

It started as a knot in the back of my thigh (or felt like one) as the days went on it became pain from the back of my ass cheek, into my hip, down the back of my leg. Laid down on the wood floor last night for a few hours with my legs bent 90 degrees on top of the couch. Maybe an hour. Today its better but not by much. Seeing the Doc next week. Hope its gone by then. I am not sure if its Sciatica, just seems like it. |

Morphine works for me. Try self traction. Lay on the floor with your back as straight as you can manage. Loop your belt just above your knees. Using the belt, slowly raise your legs until it looks like you are in a sitting position. Hold for 30 seconds. Relax and repeat 2 more times. Do this once an hour for a few days slowly increasing the time in position every day until you can hold it for 5 minutes. My neurosurgeon had me doing this before I was able to get into surgery. It does help. |
