OK, so I am finally going to crack down and get a new string trimmer...
I think I have narrowed it down to two, but I can't decide 2 cycle or 4 cycle. What say you all? Any other can't miss recomendations? Thanks, Dan |

Stick with the 2 cycle......Stihl, Husqvarna, or Shindaiwa. Run midgrade or premium fuel with a quality premix, and you will be fine.
I bought a Shindaiwa last year. My dealer carries them and Huskies. He said in all the years he has sold Shindaiwas, he seldom ever sees them again once they leave the shop. That, along with their unique cutting head, sold me. You cut off some line, stick it thru the head, and twist it backwards to take it up, and you are back to trimming. Easiest reloading I have ever done with a trimmer hands down. I believe mine is the 242 model. |

Once the engine is broken in, switch to a quality two stroke oil, MEASURE IT PROPERLY, and try not to mix more than you need at the time because of the last of stability of current fuels. Use the recommended amount of PRI-G in the fuel for stability. |

2stroke is the only choice. Buy a good one, stihl or whatever you have a servicing dealer for in your neighborhood, a good trimmer will last decades for a homeowner, I like the Stihl FS85 model. Do we qualify as an average homeowner? Among other things we have 5000' of fencline to keep trimmed...... |

A Stihl pro trimmer will run 1000 hours and then after a carb kit and rings it will run another 1000...assuming you use good mix and keep the filters clean. The box store Ryobi or whatever trimmers will last one season usually and the hassle factor keeping them running is unbelievable. Just my experience. |

Echo or Stihl
My stihl had to be sent in for warranty work because it didn't like Opti-2 oil. Which is the best oil I've ever used in all my other 2 cycle motors... but they didn't even want to cover it. I'm really not impressed with their CS but when it worked, it was good. |
| I use a Shindaiwa(?} T-27 ca. '90. I not only "weed eat" but CARVE in the dirt and flower beds. The last 5 years I have used this "weed eater" Comm. I have 1 acre of forrest and have use this machine daily for months, hours on end. Some day its gonna die! Best of any machine I have ever owned ! |
