So I was deployed to Iraq 2009-2010. I went to school before the deployment, and just started again this January when I got home. Well I got a letter from the VA today saying I owe them $1500 for benefits rewarded to me for school during the months of January 2009 - May 2009. Now many of you have probably already figured out that I was overseas during this time. I never registered for classes, never applied for benefits, or verified any enrollment on the VA website. I also have no bank statements from the last year that show any of this money being deposited into my account.
I can appeal these charges, it's just going to be a pain in the ass. It takes the VA a long ass time to get things squared away half of the time. This just put me in a bad mood today. |
| The VA is always doing shit like that. They'll overpay you and then withhold your payment until you've "repayed" them. You get the same amount of money from them either way but their method of correcting it often leads to you going for a long while without getting paid, which always seems to happen when you need money the most. |
