When I was growing up in the 60s we used lard in the popcorn popper. My Mom used to render down the lard from the hogs we had butchered. We were too poor to buy Crisco or cooling oil. It made good popcorn. And it did not get greasy when it cooled off like some microwave popcorn. My parents grew up in the Depression Years. They also experienced the rationing of WW2. |
