My old Sony VAIO is starting to go wonky.  The damn thing won't wake up from hibernation anymore.  Even after a fresh install of windows, I get nada and have to restart the machine.

Fuck it.  It is almost 5 years old and due to be replaced.  Time to start looking for an inexpensive desktop for the wife and kids.

What's your budget?
There's a Vaio F1 with a numpad!!!!!!! that I'm really tempted by, very nice for ~1200$.

The soon-to-be MrsDzlBenz v3.0 has a Vaio of about the same vintage. Same problem. Very frustrating. Sometimes it comes on, sometimes not. We've replaced the power supply, as well as the battery and the power cables from the battery compartment and charging port to the motherboard. I think it's something more serious. When we replace it (she really doesn't use it, as her company provides her with a laptop) we're just going to get a $300 netbook of some stripe.

Never did like hibernation mode.  Use standby with XP and sleep with Win7.

It's an old VAIO desktop.  Hell, the old girl doesn't even have a PCI slot.  I've been running her with AGP graphics.

I don't need a gaming rig.  The kids have their XBox 360 for that.  I'll probably just replace her with a $500 or $600 machine from Costco or Sams.
