About 15 years ago I went to England and had breakfast about 10 times.   Bacon, Eggs, Fried Tomatos, etc. The Bacon was not American or what we call Canadian Bacon.

What was it and where can I get it this side of the Atlantic???    Any English mail-order food places?

YES! God YES!

I ate it at a Perkins of all places, near Toronto and have never found it again.  I know what you are talking about. It was so good. No idea what it actually is.

I ordered Canadian Bacon because I thought it would be amusing to have it in Canada and it was not what I was expecting. Completely different than bacon or "Canadian bacon".  I have been looking for it ever since.  I have tried things that looked to be it, but never found the real deal.

I was 19 on a choir tour. We left and never went back. I am not even sure where it was. I have not been back to Canada since that. It was 11 years ago.

Here's a pic. I suspect that it could be Peameal Bacon. It's yummy.

For a real British breakfast treat, try the kippers.

This is what you are thinking of:

In England there are two main types of bacon, back bacon (what you see above) and streaky bacon (like US bacon).

I have tried the bacon from britishbacon.com and is is good but not 100% correct (they cure the bacon the traditional way which ends up in it tasting a little too salty compared to the mass-produced bacon most places in England use).

Here's is another US place that sells back bacon: https://www.englishporkpiecompany.com/store.htm (their pork pies are also the best I have tasted in the US)

mmmmmmm You guys reminded me how much I loved the bacon when I was in England.  Bacon sandwiches ( back bacon on a biscut) and a pint for breakfast was the best

My local grocery store used to sell it in a big, fat roll so yu could cut your own thick slices.

Sadly, they no longer have it.

ETA they want $45 shipping to ship a 15 pound package from North Caroline to Virginia.  Fuck you. I'll shop somewhere else.
