K, so I can't get an answer on the mustang boards...So I'll give it a shot here.

Want to drop this

with these Ford Racing Mustang K-Springs (05-10 GT)

Will I need new UCA's and LCA's?  Camber plates?

Thanks,

I've been sick as shit all weekend, so I've just been online shopping.

Coilovers bro.

Eta unless I'm missing something you should just need to install the new springs and get an alignment. You will probably need a strut compressor tool. You can rent it from most Auto parts stores. At Autozone you pay full price and get all of your money back when you return it.

You are probably paying 2-3x what those springs are worth because the Ford name is on the box.

Get some Eibachs, and get your wheels aligned afterwards. That should fix most of the problems involved.

Those springs are under $200.  Not a bad price, and I've heard they are damn nice.

Coilovers.  Don't cheap your way out and do springs only. Most people that I know who have taken the cheap way end up putting greater wear and tear on the suspension and.subframe.

I tried springs only on my Audi.  They lowered the car, but handled like crap with the stock shocks.  I bought a good set of coilovers (H&R) and wish I had the $400 back I wasted on the springs.

Be prepared to scrape the undercarriage on every parking stop,  curb,  dip,  manhole cover.  If you find a large steep dip you will have to take it at an angle.  You may have some tire rub at full travel.

It will change your alignment.  Take it to an alignment shop that knows how to align a lowered car.  Do you have a SCCA club in your area?  They may know someone.

My 2 cents.

I think the springs will lower without the need for additional parts.

An alignment after lowering might be a good idea.

Regardless, you will want to change out the shocks/struts with those designed for lowered cars. Factory ones will wear out much faster.

With a good set, the way the car feels shouldnt change much, if at all. My old car rode smooth after the change over.

One contraction: Don't.

I have a 2007 Mustang GT, almost the same as your 2009. It's already low enough IMHO. If you want to improve handling, look at tires, shocks/struts, and anti-roll bars first. These will make a huge improvement and won't sacrifice ride quality too much, and you get to retain a decent ground clearance.

Wont changing the spring hight also change the Camber on the wheels? I know aligment can correct some camber issues but lowering with just springs seems like it would lead to premature tire wear on the inside of your tires... I have never lowered a car so i really dont know. I have just seen lots of them lowered and they all seem like the camber is off and they all have a bald spot on the inside line of the tire.

Wheel camber (incase any one does not know what that is.)

And before any one says shit. Its his car i can care less. As a matter of fact a inch or two loweing on a mustang looks good in my opinion. I would just worry about eating tires. Tires aint cheap.

you dont need to spend 2k on coilovers to get a decent handling car and it wont scrape on everything, i had a Z06 that sat over a inch lower than stock and it would scrape alot but it wasn't un drivable, you dont need camber plates either unless you wanna crank out the negative on it, get it aligned after you do the springs and they settle in

I was gonna say this. I have C-Springs w/ Tokico Blues on my Fox, but if I ever go any further with suspension it will be with MM stuff. I have their CC plates on the car and quality is second to none.

I dropped my Stang. Needed Camber plates to stave off excessive tire wear. The drop itself is easy.

You can roll without them, but it will get expensive quick.

I think coil overs may be a bit much for an average street driven Mustang, especially if you don't end up have them installed/set properly.

Good springs and shocks will go a long way towards getting a more aggressive stance and improving the handling of your car.  Someone mentioned Maximum Motorsports, they're good guys and can point you in the right direction.

Nice ride.  That's pretty much the stance I'm looking for, what springs and which plates you running?  How much better is the handling?  I plan on ordering shocks and struts at the same time.

I'm still actually leaning toward coilovers...just because of the buy once cry once thing.

Caster/camber adjustments on an S197 Mustang are done with eccentric cam bolts, caster/camber plates are used on Fox bodies and SN95 cars.

I ran just regular BBK 2" springs and Steeda camber plates. It actually rode better than stock IMO.

There's like a progressive compression thing going on there I think. The top of the spring rides smooth, but if you hit a dip, you'll compress your spine.

ETA;

Springs

Plates

And i also had a set of KYB shocks and struts. Rode like a dream. No body roll and smooth ride.

I have H&R Super Sports, no other modifications. Lots of people talk about shocks/struts etc.. but I've found on my 01' and my 07 that I didn't need it. Though I do concede that the struts and shocks will go out faster, maybe 5+ years down the road. I don't dog it out though, just cruising and looking good

I would go with the Springs for now.

I had a 2000GT, 1998Cobra and both of them were lowered with Eibachs PRO springs.  Both of them needed struts and shocks after one summer.  Just get the tokico's from summit racing CHEAP and they work great.  I worked at a shop with an alignment rack and I didnt need the caster/camber plates on either of them.  I would not skimp on the shocks and strutes if it were me!  It will bounce your head around like you were on a water bed after a couple of months.
