First, I know there is a HAM Radio forum and I have posted these questions there..

But GD has it all..So here we go fellas..

I need RADIO savvy folks to school this young one how to get started into HAM Radio and what I need to get going..I have read some but I don't have a clue about
the equipment needed or limitations and certain requirements of the equipment..Lets say a person had a budget of 5grand to get started just for equipment..What sort of set-up would this get us..Can we reach the ancient civilization of Moon dwellers?...With Clarity?.

Is there such a thing as open broadcasting a message or a news type program or is that illegal or does it require different licenses?

I have question about commercial broadcasting too..

Anyone know the average rate for a 30 minute spot on your local hole in the wall "AM radio station" for something like a news program or similar?

A friend and I are going to look into starting a conservative radio program and we are thinking about looking in to buying air time on an AM station locally but we have NO idea about broadcasting licenses or how to get started or what it might cost..Are their contracts for time and that sort of thing?..I know we would have to get sponsors and run commercials if we are ever going to make it and that will take time and beating the street..

Should I get into HAM radio first since it might give me some experience when and IF we go into Commercial Radio?..Can we basically accomplish the same
outcome on Amateur Radio as we can Commercial Radio..Simply getting a message out to the LARGEST group of humans possible and being able to maintain our overhead..It is NOT about making a profit of any kind..Unless,of course, money begins to fall into our laps..I know I am dreaming..but stranger things have
happened..Especially since it will be REAL Conservative programing..

Girly men need not apply...

Why not just do a podcast? You'll be able to reach a MUCH wider audience, with almost no further investment in equipment.

I don't know zip about it but a search could answers some questions.  Not much on this link but got me wondering about an inet radio station.  Getting the word around would be the difficulty part I guess.

If you think you're going to have a broadcast show on shortwave, you have A LOT of research to do...

Amateur radio may not be used for broadcasting. It is for 2-way communications.

http://wireless.fcc.gov/services/index.htm?job=about_1&id=amateur#One-Way%20Transmissions

Q: Is broadcasting prohibited?

Yes. Section 97.113 prohibits amateur stations from engaging in any form of broadcasting or in any activity related to program production or news gathering for broadcasting purposes.

Q: Is there an exception to this prohibition?

Yes, there is one exception: Communications directly related to the immediate safety of human life or the protection of property may be provided by amateur stations to broadcasters for dissemination to the public where no other means of communication is reasonably available before or at the time of the event.

Q: What is "broadcasting"?

Section 97.3 defines the term "broadcasting," in the context of the amateur service, as a transmission intended for reception by the general public, either direct or delayed.

Do you know how to record your voice on your computer?

Do you know how to upload a file to an Internet website?

Producing a podcast is infinitely less complicated than producing a radio program.

I was fairly certain it was illegal..But wasn't totally 100% positive.

Thanks for the concrete..

Good idea.  If there's one thing the world needs more of it's conservative radio programs- provided you make sure to break no new ground on policy and follow the directives of your mullahs (Rush, Levin, etc.)

I read on this and it seems really simple..I can do all of the above..I guess there Are there websites that are for this purpose only?

Or should someone create a website and add the Podcast as part of services..Or are there places who have these podcast in categories
related to the subject matter wanted by individuals..

I guess what I am asking is how does A target audience get access of the voice data?

Start there. You can get a domain name and simple hosting from GoDaddy.com for as little as $20/year. Start out by just having each "episode" as a downloadable file. After your podcast grows in popularity, look into distributing it on iTunes or some other outlet. You might even get folks to pay $0.99 per download, in order to offset your expenses.

Get on iTunes and browse around for some podcasts that are in the same vein as what you're after. Maybe you can be a guest on someone else's podcast!

I appreciate your insight into this new arena..

I take it you might do this yourself or do you subscribe to lots of podcasts?

I subscribe to a few, but I've got a couple of ideas for ones of my own. I don't have the time to get them going right now, but I've thought about them a bit. There are opportunities out there.

Good luck, and let us know.
