| What's a good AFQT percentile score? |
|
I have no clue what mine was. I don't think I ever saw. I mean once you get in the Army, you GT score is the only thing that matters.
Oh, I'm not sure what jobs require over 90. I wouldn't think many. I'm pretty sure I qualified for anything, but for the life of me I can't remember what I got. |

Got a 98. Also got a hot future female Marine's number on it. Recruiter was thrilled. So was I, until a few days later when I asked for it back so I could get the number, and he had lost it lawls "he lost it" lawls He lost it right into his phone contacts and was hitting that the next week.

Now I feel kind of stupid for getting a 77. But I did finish in 40 minutes ![]() The first time I ever took it I did it without studying for it and got a 77. Further attempts (because I took it several times during the 1990's) yielded an average score of around 85 points because I studied for all of those tests. The last time I took it back in 2003 I scored my highest score ever––––a 91. I studied for that one as well. However, my Achilles heel throughout all of this was my poor vision and my back. At the time, my vision was around 20/700 (I have since had LASIK surgery and my vision now is around 20/30) and the Army (or at least MEPS, anyway) complained about my back because I (stupidly) made mention that I periodically had back pain and that required me to see a physical therapist once during the early 90's. MEPS didn't like either of those issues and that got me DQ'd on several recruitment attempts. After 2003, I said to hell with it and just decided to stay a civilian. |

Everyone on arfcom got a 95 or better that I've seen. I got an 81 and the recruiter was impressed. I think 70 and above is pretty good. It's only going to be the ones who got relatively good scores that will post theirs, so of course it'll skew the results and make it look like everyone here got a good score. |

Apparently 92Y can get armorer qualified now as there is no MOS for armorer any more. We usually just sent a guy to school and it was an additional duty for an 11B. Irregardless...92Y is a good skill from the Army...lots of overseas opportunities when you get out if you want to look that way eventually. |

If you want to be a weapon mechanic, 91F is the job you want. Be warned, you might get lucky like me and get sent to one of the worst units in the Army and want out within the first two week of being there. Conversely, you might get sent to a bad ass unit and fall in love with the Army. You can go anywhere as a 91F. |

Will I still get the full effect as a part timer? You'll get the same schools...depending on school length, you might have the option of doing online parts and then finishing the last couple weeks at the "actual school", which also completes your 15 days a year requirement. Way we do a few of the schools (I'm still learning this Guard thing, myself...did 6yr active...now in the Guard). Look for deployment opportunities, though, if your unit isn't up for one. There's usually a request list out looking for those that want to go either with other states or to supplement an active unit. Deployed experience will help if you want to go the contracting route later. |

We fix M9, M16, M4, M203, M107, M249, M240, M2, MK19, M242, mortars, whatever shotgun the Army uses, and towed arty like the M777 and M119. Typically, whatever the 92Y Armor can't fix, which is pretty much everything because they're useless, they send to you to fix. It's normally at a battalion level, so you'll have to keep around 1000 weapons up and running. My unit has no arty or mortars, so they only need two of us. The other guy has family issues, so I'm usually the only one working. I just got done doing annual gauging on some weapons today and I'll be replacing some parts in the near future, including a barrel. It's a cool job. |

Amazingly, 90% of Arfcom is still in the top 5% of America. I got a 93, with a GT score of 131. Three hours of sleep with no breakfast and absolutely zero practice. The electrical and mechanical stuff is what "killed" me, if it could be said that I did poorly. Still, you don't need a particularly high score for airborne infantry... |
| I knew a kid in school that scored a 17, 19, or something low like that. He wanted to go in at the age of 17 (take boot camp while still in school), but they wouldn't let him. He had to have had at least a 21 or 25 IIRC (it's been awhile.) He wasn't too concerned, because he said his score was good enough if he enlisted after graduation. My sister was cheerleader and scored in the high 80's. |
It was sad how low they lowered the standards. He didn't last long
