I just started shooting prone, vice from a bench, and now my elbows are demanding a mat. Pardon my ignorance, but after some looking around, I found many in the $150+ range and I cannot see why. Does the Hivemind have an affordable mat or a reason why I need to spend that kind of money? Thanks |

I have just the basic one from Midway USA and it's served me well. It was less than $50 Ditto - I got the Midway mat when it was like $24.95 (they go on sale frequently). It's the best value on the market. Linky |

One benefit to that is if you need to move you just pick up the two sides and haul everything all at once. eta: WOW, that's some backorder on the Midway mats ........... and full price
here it is 'in action'

Shooter's Ridge Mat
Shooter's Ridge has a new shooting mat out that's pretty nice for $50. |

that appears to be 99% the design of the Midway mat. I wonder who makes this mat for companies ............... |

Does the Hivemind have an affordable mat or a reason why I need to spend that kind of money? A USMC style cloth shooting jacket is $70 from Fred's and comes with Appleseed targets. Fred's These have padded elbows which help alot. .. Military Logistics has jackets (no targets included) for about $50 but I have not seen them in person OD Jackets Night Desert Jackets .. I have a Midway mat and they are decent as others have already mentioned. Midway USA has their shooting mats on sale for about $25 pretty often. MATS They are out of stock now but will get them in very quickly. This happens on a regular basis in the spring when people rush to get stuff. |

Wal-Mart has some powder-blue mats that are otherwise just like the old GI mats for about $7. Most GI mats are around $20 at most surplus stores - and they are in a man's color - olive drab. Those and the blankets won't last long if you do much shooting and if you have a shooting jacket with the rubber elbows with sticky on them. You sling up tight and nestle into a foam mat, that thing will be shredded in one day. |

I've actually burnt my elbows. Why the hell they insist on black, I'll never know. I sent them an email about it a long time ago and was pretty much blown off.

Yep - Several of the instructors at the last Appleseed I attended had the midway-usa mat too. |

The Rifles Only TAB shooting mat is pretty nice if you want something you can lash to your pack.

I picked up an older usgi paratroopers drop case for about $10 a few years ago from CTD. It was a special deal at the time. Doubles great as a shooters mat.

Till Fred screws you on the order because he shipped it to the wrong address, after being told twice where to ship it, then refuses to deal with it. F Fred and his horse. The Midway mat is the way to go. Michael |
