We had our house built 11 years ago and have been plagued by power outages. The breaker on the pole across the street gets tripped causing the power loss. Right now it sunny and 55 degrees and the power is out. What causes this to happen? I bitched at our rural power company, but to no avail.

Take a cup of coffee to the guys who come out to fix the problem, and politely mention that it sure happens a lot...

They probably have too much load on the line and need a larger line, but are too cheap or don't have the money to replace it since it's still working most of the time.

Once you got one too many washing machines, etc. running at once, the breaker trips.

A larger line makes sense. I'm gonna call again tomorrow and talk to someone there and see if there is anything that can be done.
