| Is a properly configured poly framed ALICE pack with some good upgraded straps going to work for backpacking? seems to be a great way to build a nice custom pack. Thoughts? |

an ALICE or Mountain Ruck while good and very rugged are not the best ideas if you can afford another option. The ALICE is ment to be an off the shelf on size fits all ruck. I have one made by Tactical Tailor that has been all over the world with me while on uncle sugars dime. However when given the option of using personalized gear I would go a different rout. Look at these guys their product is first rate and IMHO better than any ALICE/MTN Ruck could hope to be. http://www.kifaru.net/
Just my 2 cents. |
| My issue with the ALICE packs is that they tend to rip in a few key places. The frame is more durable than the issue molle rucks, but the material on the molle is much more rugged than the ALICE nylon. Im sending off my alice to tactical tailor right now to do their pocuh and stitch upgrades, along with the fastex buckles. |

When you do spend the extra cash and have them do the enhancement to the radio pouch and have the reinforce the bottom with courdura or something of the like (hard lessoned learned). I sent mine back to have the cinch straps run the entire length of the ruck so as not to cause a tear point at the bottom. |
| The ALICE pack is a medieval tourture device that is reserved for those that have no choice in the matter. Why some of the younger Marines want to use that thing is beyond me. Go to REI and get a real pack for backpacking and learn to pack it,and adjust it properly. I hated the ALICE pack. |
