I've always bought the cheap walmart boots that are $35.00 or so.  Is it worth paying double, or triple that for a good boot?  Will it last 3 times longer?

It's not a specific task boot.  I never know what I'll get into.  Painting, digging, going to the range, working in the yard, building a deck, etc.

Not only will it last longer, the soles are better for your feet. But if you want to spend the money or not depends on if you wear them as a weekend backyard warrior or if you make your living in them.

My company pays the first $150 for boots. Red Wing has some very good composite toe boots and I was only out $1.75 of my own money.  Steel toe=cold and heavy.  Composite toe= no temperature issues and light weight.

You can buy one pair of quality boots that lasts years or several pairs of low end boots that suck ass, hurt your feet and wear out in two months.

would you run a marathon in flip-flops?  Good boots worth every cent, just like good optics.

what kind of boot are you looking for? pull on, lace up, steel toe, etc?

I actually wear my workboots, Redwing Pecos, quite a bit outside of work

Absolutely. Rocky makes some great boots. They will feel like a foot massage after a day of work compared to the wally world boots.

Well.... in this area we call them WHITES BOOTS.  I still have my first pair built in 1985.  Rebuilt in 1990,1995,2000 and 2005. They have been 5 trips of ocean fishing from Mexico to Costa Rica.  They have logged and blocked over 300 cords of fire wood in Mountainous terrain and retrieved many many waterfowl from very cold lakes and rivers. I've got about 1000 bucks in them so far!

I have a pair of Timberlands that were about $110 at TSC. EXCELLENT boots. Way better than the $50-$70 Dickies and no-names. Also, better boots will come in a few widths. Timberland 10 extra wide feels sooo much better than squeezing into an 11 standard width.

My first "real" pair of work boots was a $130 pair of Dr. Martens steel toes.  They lasted about 4.5 years before I broke down and replaced them.  I had absolutely no qualms about spending $200 on my Chippewa loggers.

I bought cheapo boots at walmart and they were 'ok' but you're on your feet quite a bit and wearing shitty boots will make your day suck.  If you can afford better boots, do it.

I've had the same pair of Danner Quarry's for over 6 years now, and they are still one of the most comfortable pairs of footwear I own. Absolutely worth it.

Red Wings never fit right for me.

I now where Justins, non steel toe and steel toe.

I also own a pair of Worx (Red Wing brand IIRC) metatrsel boots.

Usually with boots, the more they cost, the better they are.

Yeah, that there is exactly why I'm thinking about spending some extra money this time.

After a days work in walmart boots, I can't wait to rip them off my feet.  Plus I get 4 months max out of each pair before they rip.

spend the money.

For around town/after work I wear Redwing 2408 boots. At work I wear Wolverine DuraShocks but before I put my feet in them I replace the insoles with Redbed insoles. Then I take them home and beeswax the boots until the leather doesn't soak up any more beeswax.

At work I wear Redwing 6680's
When I get home I take them off... and put on my "at home" pair of Redwing 6680's
-they dont have the chemical stains/scuffs my "at work" pair have, but either pair are super comfy.

When I got my first job in the oilfield, I bought some cheap JC penny workboots because I was young, dumb and broke.  My new crew easily convinced me that I should take my first paycheck down to the Red Wing store and buy some real boots. My JC Penny boots were worthless and didn't even really last my whole first hitch (3 weeks). I hated them.

Red Wings are the shiznits for working in tough environments and worth ever penny and they last and last.

These days I've been wearing Ariats though for my workboots because I work around horses a lot and that's what they are designed for. In fact I bought a new pair today that is a style I've always wanted (lightweight hiking kinda thing) and I wear a heavier pull on cowboy type with a rounded toe that I love just as much as my old pull on Red Wings.

Both brands are spendy, but you get what you pay for with either and the choice all depends on the job they are required to do.

I'm having very good luck with the Magnum Stealth Series.  Both the sidezip, insulated, composite toe 8" ers and they are comfy and flexible.

Thats what I wear, but they are about 300 bucks(2263's).I get about 4 years of really hard use out of them, work boots are the only article of clothing I will spend good money on.Redwing has a imported line that cost's a lot less, but they fall apart like the cheapies.

I search out belleville steel toe goretex lined combat boots on ebay,  I never pay more than $60 shipped for a brand new pair of $160 boots, and believe it or not, they are the most comfortable boots I have ever had, from the first day I wear them.

Same here!

I've worn nothing but Redwings for over 20 years. Just bought a new pair of 1105's last week.

I have a pair for work and a pair just knocking around in.

Cheap boots worn too long will jack up your feet!  I had a pair of Columbia boots that I wore for about a year after I should have replaced them and I have been two years now trying to get rid of plantar fascitis.  I deal with extremely sore feet at least three days of the week.  This is after see podiatrist and getting $350 orthotics!

I got some Ecco boots now that would be very comfortable if my feet were not already screwed up!  They are around the $200 mark, I've had them just over a year and when they are clean they almost look like new.  I wear them 5-6 days a week in the summer and everyday in the winter and was told they should last five to six years.  By the looks of them and the tread left I will get at least 3 years out of them.  Also they are still waterproof after a little over a year!
